Oh, I'm not a sister I am a brotherWe hear your heart’s deep love for your uncles and your even deeper desire for their salvation. This tension you feel, between loving them as they are and longing for them to walk in God’s truth, is one many believers face when those we care for live in ways Scripture calls sin. Your willingness to surrender even the relationship itself for the sake of their souls reveals a Christlike love that does not compromise truth.
First, we must be clear: the Bible is unmistakable about homosexuality. Leviticus 18:22 says, "You shall not lie with a man as with a woman. That is detestable." In the New Testament, Romans 1:26-27 calls it "shameful lusts" and "unnatural relations," and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 warns that those who practice such things "will not inherit the Kingdom of God." These are not cultural opinions, they are God’s holy standards for human sexuality, designed for our flourishing and His glory.
Yet we must also remember that God’s heart is always for repentance and restoration. 1 Corinthians 6:11 says, "Such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." This is the hope we cling to: no sin is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Your uncles are not defined by their sin, but by their need for a Savior. Their identity is not "gay", it is "lost," just as we all once were.
We must rebuke the lie that love requires silence about sin. True love speaks truth, even when it’s painful. Ephesians 4:15 says we must speak "the truth in love," and Proverbs 27:6 tells us, "Faithful are the wounds of a friend." You are not being unkind by praying for their repentance, you are being faithful. But we must also guard our hearts from self-righteousness. Romans 2:1 warns, "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things." We are all sinners saved by grace, and our posture must always be one of humility and compassion.
Now, let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up these two men You love so deeply. Lord, You know their names, their struggles, and the lies they have believed about themselves. We ask that You would open their eyes to see the truth of Your Word and the beauty of Your design for their lives. Break the chains of deception, Father, and let them taste the freedom that comes from walking in Your ways.
We pray for conviction, not condemnation, let Your Holy Spirit move in their hearts in a way that leads them to repentance. Give them the courage to turn away from sin and the faith to believe that You can redeem even this. Lord, if their relationship must end for them to walk in obedience to You, we trust You to be their comfort and strength. We know that Your plans for them are good, even when they cannot see it.
Give our sister here wisdom and boldness to speak truth with love. Help her to love them fiercely, even if they reject the message. Guard her heart from bitterness or fear, and fill her with Your peace as she surrenders them to You. Let her words and actions reflect Your heart, so that they may see Christ in her.
We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we are saved and the only name that has power to break every chain. May Your will be done in their lives, and may they come to know You as their Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to continue praying for your uncles daily, asking God to soften their hearts and reveal Himself to them. Share Scripture with them when the opportunity arises, perhaps starting with verses about God’s love and redemption, like John 3:16-17 or Romans 5:8. Invite them to church or to read the Bible with you, but do so with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15). Above all, let your life be a testimony of God’s grace. Your love for them, even in this difficult situation, may be the very thing that draws them to Christ.
Remember, their salvation is not your burden to carry, it is God’s work. You are called to be faithful, not successful. Trust Him with their hearts, and trust Him with your own. He is faithful, and He will not abandon you or them.
Thank you for your prayer, though.Oh, I'm not a sister I am a brotherThank you for your prayer, though.
Thank you. I will try to the best of my ability to tell them about the Word of God.The computer that answered above missed a couple things as AI is apt to do frequently. The main thing it missed is this: Brother, you can also share the Word of God with them. The generated answer said, "Your job isn’t to make them change, only God can work that kind of transformation in a heart. What you can do is love them steadily, pray for them faithfully, and let your own life be a quiet, consistent witness. Keep showing up. Keep the relationship warm. When the time feels right, you might gently share what Jesus means to you, not as a lecture, but simply out of the overflow of your own faith."
It totally missed the most important part -- Scripture bears its own authority. There is nothing more genuine than after bathing this situation in prayer, as you obviously are doing, "showing up" with the genuine care and concern of the Bible, that what it says about sin, and Jesus and the Apostles were specific in naming the main idol or sin keeping people from God (the rich man verses, "go sell all you have and give to the poor, and come and follow me," Matt 19:20-24, and Peter, "Therefore let all Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ!” Acts 2:36, and, "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus. You handed Him over and rejected Him before Pilate, even though he had decided to release Him. 14 You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. 15 You killed the Author of life, but God raised Him from the dead, and we are witnesses of this fact. Repent, then, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away, 20 that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus, the Christ, who has been appointed for you." Acts 3:13-15, Acts 3:19-20.
"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." Prov 15:22. God Bless in Jesus' Name
