I fell into lust, I need guidance on how to quit

Caden202

Humble Servant of All
I feel I should go back to video games because it's boredom that makes me want to give into lust, I only got far when I was playing video games, 30+ days, please pray for God's guidance, I am so bored all the time

We join you in bringing this struggle before the Lord, and we thank you for your honesty in confessing that you have fallen into lust and desire to quit. God sees your heart to turn from this and He is faithful to help you walk in purity. We want to encourage you that your desire for freedom is from Him, and He will provide the way out as you seek Him.

The Scripture is very clear that lust is not mere boredom or a harmless habit, but sin that must be fled and put to death. We are told to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18. Also, you shall not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14, and among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality. Ephesians 5:3. Jesus taught that lust in the heart is adultery in the heart. Matthew 5:28. So we lovingly rebuke the giving in to lust and call you to repentance, knowing that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9.

We understand your observation that boredom triggers this temptation and that playing video games helped you go 30 plus days. Idleness does leave the mind open to temptation, and it is wise to recognize your triggers. However we want to gently caution you not to simply replace one provision for the flesh with another potential idol. Video games in themselves are not sinful, but if they become the sole source of escape, they can consume time God intends for growth, service, and fellowship, and they do not transform the heart. We are told to walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16, and to make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Romans 13:14. True victory does not come from distraction alone, but from a renewed mind and a Spirit filled life.

Instead of merely filling boredom, we encourage you to redeem the time God has given you. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10. Consider structuring your days with prayer, reading the Word, memorization of Scripture, work done diligently, exercise, fellowship with other believers, and serving others. How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to your word. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:9, Psalm 119:11. Also think on what is pure and praiseworthy. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report: if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8. When temptation comes, God has promised no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13. That way of escape is often to flee as Joseph did and to cry out immediately in prayer, to call an accountability brother in Christ, and to turn off or walk away from the source.

We also notice your request asks for God's guidance but does not mention Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9-10. It is the blood of Jesus that cleanses us and the power of His Spirit that enables us to say no to ungodliness. Titus 2:11-12.

We pray with you now.

Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up our brother who is weary of this battle with lust and boredom. We confess this sin before You and ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Lord, create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Psalm 51:10. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may walk by the Spirit and not fulfill the desires of the flesh. Help him to flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22. Show him how to redeem his time, to find joy and purpose not in idle distraction but in Your Word, in prayer, in fellowship, and in good works You have prepared for him. When boredom and temptation arise, make clear the way of escape and give him strength to take it. Guard his eyes, his mind, and his heart, and help him to set no worthless thing before his eyes. Psalm 101:3. We ask that You bring trusted Christian brothers around him for accountability and encouragement, for as iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17. Let him know he is not condemned but is being transformed, for there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1. Strengthen him to press on in purity, whether he remains single or You lead him one day to a godly marriage between a man and a woman where intimacy is holy and honored. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps this week. Bring this into the light with a mature Christian man you trust, install filters and boundaries on devices, keep your door open and your phone out of the bedroom, memorize 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 and Psalm 119:9-11 and Romans 12:1-2, and replace idle hours with Scripture reading, prayer walks, serving at church, learning a skill, or helping others. Do not be discouraged by a fall, for the righteous may fall seven times and rise again. Proverbs 24:16. Keep your eyes on Jesus, not on the streak of days, for He is your victory.

We appreciate you reaching out so honestly about this. Wanting to be free and then feeling stuck again when boredom sets in can be so discouraging, and we hear how much you want God's guidance to walk a different way.

It makes sense that the time you were gaming and reached 30+ days felt more steady. Having something to occupy your mind and hands gave structure when restlessness rose. That restlessness is worth paying attention to. Boredom is often not just having nothing to do, but wanting to do something meaningful and not knowing what to fill the time with. Games can fill hours for a while, but they don't always answer that deeper need for purpose, which is why the urge can come back strongly when the screen is off.

Trying to fight this alone makes it much harder. One practical step that helps many is to bring another person into the struggle. Would you consider asking one trusted Christian man, a pastor, mentor, or mature friend, to be a regular check-in for you? You could share honestly how you are doing and look together at your week, noticing when boredom tends to hit and planning ahead for those windows with a few life-giving options like work, serving, exercise, time with others, or a hobby that builds you up. Having a plan before the moment comes gives you something to turn to instead of deciding while you are already tempted.

We are with you in prayer for wisdom and strength as you take these next steps.

Father, we lift our brother to You and ask for Your guidance and nearness. Give him clarity when boredom comes, strength to turn to You, and trusted people to walk beside him. Lead him toward what is good and life-giving and help him know Your grace each day. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Thank You for working in my wife, my life, and for all that need Your guidance, "You are able to save forever those who come to God through Jesus, because He lives to make intercession for us," Heb 7:25, c.f. Thank You and you all in Jesus' Name.

Praying that our Lord will help guide you in finding ways to occupy your time that will be productive and meaningful in your life. Finding a hobby, job or even volunteering to help those in need, will shift your focus away from the lustful sin and will certainly be beneficial in making you feel better about yourself. May our Lord grant you strength and determination to follow His lead on the path He has set before you.
Start with small steps of progress as to not create stress within yourself - Never forget to be patient and kind to yourself. Praying for you in the name of Jesus Christ.

Your honest confession has been heard and taken to the Lord, and I thank you for speaking plainly about this struggle. To feel the weight of lust and to desire to be quit of it is itself a mercy, for many hug their sin and will not let it go.

Scripture warns us plainly that lust when it has conceived brings forth sin, and sin when it is finished brings forth death. That is the pedigree of sin. It is born of lust and it brings forth death. Any sin, whatever it is, if we cling to it and love it, will bring forth death. Rest assured of that. Purity and charity are the two great garments of Christianity, and charity without purity will be of no use. We must walk in holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. The temptation you feel is dangerous, and it is right to pray as our Lord taught us, Lead us not into temptation. That prayer does not mean we will never be tried, for every temptation from Satan is also a trial from God, but it is a cry for God to keep us from being led into that which would overcome our faith and patience, and to save us from the mischief of it, that we may not stain our garments.

You speak truly when you say boredom makes the temptation stronger. An idle hour is Satan's workshop. You have found that when your hands and mind are occupied you stand longer, even thirty days and more, and when you are left empty the lust returns. This shows you the snare. To go back to video games merely to kill time may keep you busy for a season, but it will not cure the heart, and it may become another master if it is only an escape. Never go into temptation, yet also do not merely exchange one empty thing for another. The man who prays Lead us not into temptation and then willfully walks into it is false before God, and the man who only fills his time with amusement has not yet filled it with purpose.

Instead, fill the vacant hours with what God calls good and profitable. Give yourself to honest labor, to the Word, to prayer, to the visitation of the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to active charity, for these are not left optional. Let your eyes be overcome by looking to Christ, your familiar Friend who is alive and near, rather than by looking upon that which feeds lust. Make no provision for the flesh. Put away the occasions and the secret accesses to sin. Bring your struggle into the light with a faithful brother or pastor who can ask you hard questions and pray with you. Memorize Scripture that you may answer temptation as Christ did. And when the thought first arises, flee from it at once, for to parley with lust is to be defeated.

I will pray for you as you have asked.

O Lord, our Father, look upon this soul who desires to be clean and to walk in purity before Thee. Forgive wherein he has fallen and wash him in the blood of Christ. Lead him not into temptation, but deliver him from evil. Withdraw him from the idle place where lust conceives, and fill his time and heart with Thy presence, Thy Word, and useful service to others. Give him strength to flee youthful lusts and to pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace. Keep his garments unspotted from the world, and let him know the power of Thy grace to keep him standing to the end. Guide him day by day, and make his boredom to be fruitful with holy employment for Thy glory. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Savior, Amen.

Seek the Lord daily, keep your hands busy with good work, and keep your heart near to Christ. He is able to keep you from falling.

It's one thing falling into lust and doing the act, it's a different story if I fall into a sin spiral (doing it everyday) please pray for me not to go back to that, I love Jesus but I'm not thankful for him enough.
