I can’t quit vaping on antipsychotics

We hear your struggle and recognize the weight of this battle you're facing. The grip of addiction—whether to nicotine or any other substance—is not one to be taken lightly, and we understand that the added challenge of antipsychotic medication can make this feel even more overwhelming. But take heart, for the Lord is near to those who are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone in this fight, and we stand with you in prayer and encouragement, seeking God’s strength and deliverance for you.

First, we must acknowledge that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Vaping, like any form of substance dependence, can become a chain that binds us, pulling us away from the freedom Christ died to give us. Jesus said, *"If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed"* (John 8:36). This freedom is not just spiritual—it extends to every area of our lives, including the physical habits that may enslave us. The fact that you’re reaching out shows that the Holy Spirit is already at work in you, drawing you toward holiness and wholeness.

We also want to gently address the reality of relying on medication. While we absolutely affirm that God can use medicine to bring healing and stability—just as He used the fig poultice to heal Hezekiah (Isaiah 38:21)—we must also guard our hearts against allowing medication to become an excuse for sin or bondage. The enemy would love for you to believe that you’re powerless in this, but Scripture tells us that *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13). Even in the midst of your medication, God has provided a way out—but it may require bold steps of faith, accountability, and surrender.

Now, let us come before the throne of grace together, lifting you up in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and set free. Lord, we lift up our brother/sister who is struggling with the bondage of vaping, especially in the context of taking antipsychotic medication. We ask that You would break every chain, every lie, and every stronghold that the enemy has used to keep them in this cycle. Father, Your Word declares that *"whom the Son sets free is free indeed"* (John 8:36), and we claim that freedom for them right now. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name and command it to loose its grip.

Lord, we ask that You would strengthen their will and their spirit. Give them the courage to take practical steps—whether that’s seeking medical advice about their medication, finding accountability, or replacing this habit with godly disciplines like prayer, Scripture reading, and worship. Surround them with believers who will walk alongside them, pray for them, and hold them up when they are weak. Father, we also ask that You would heal any underlying anxiety, depression, or emotional pain that may be driving this habit. You are the God who heals, and we trust You to restore their mind, body, and spirit.

We pray for wisdom for their doctors and counselors, that they would have discernment in how to support them through this season. And Lord, if there is any unforgiveness, bitterness, or unconfessed sin in their heart, we ask that You would bring it to light and lead them to repentance, for *"if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9).

Above all, Father, we ask that You would draw them closer to You through this struggle. Let this trial refine their faith and deepen their dependence on You. Remind them that Your grace is sufficient, and Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). We declare that they are more than conquerors through Christ who loves them (Romans 8:37), and we thank You for the victory that is already theirs in Jesus’ name.

Now, we encourage you to take practical steps alongside this spiritual battle. Consider reaching out to a trusted pastor, counselor, or Christian friend who can pray with you and hold you accountable. If your medication is making cravings worse, speak with your doctor about alternatives—God can work through medical professionals to bring about change. Replace the habit of vaping with something life-giving, like Scripture memorization, worship music, or even physical exercise, which can help regulate your body’s chemistry in a healthy way. And most importantly, saturate your mind with God’s Word. Meditate on verses like Philippians 4:13 (*"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me"*) and Psalm 119:11 (*"I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You"*).

Remember, this is not a battle you have to fight alone. The Lord is your strength, and His people are here to support you. Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you *will* reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). We believe that God is already at work in you, and we declare breakthrough over your life in Jesus’ name.

We're here with you, friend, every step of the way. We know quitting vaping, especially while on antipsychotics, can feel overwhelming. But remember, God is right there with you, ready to lend His strength and grace. Let's keep our focus on Him.

We've been thinking about how Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (John 10:10). That full life includes freedom from habits that hold us back. So, let's claim that freedom together. We believe that God wants you to experience that abundant life, and He's working in you right now to make it a reality.

We also want to encourage you to seek professional help if you haven't already. Doctors and counselors can provide valuable guidance and support. And don't forget, the church is here for you too. Find a trusted brother or sister in Christ to pray with, hold you accountable, and walk alongside you in this journey.

Let's keep praying together:

"Father, we come to You in Jesus' name. We lift up our friend who's struggling with vaping while on medication. Lord, we ask for Your healing power to break the chains of addiction. Give them the strength to make wise decisions and the courage to take practical steps towards freedom. Surround them with Your love and Your people. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Keep trusting in God's love and power. You're not alone, and we're here for you, cheering you on every step of the way.

I prayed that God in Jesus' name will answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God Loves You. Thank You Jesus!!!
