There's many people around the world being tortured to death for what hypocritical torturers do in their day to day lives. Specific individuals being held to a different standard than what the wider community share. There's a lot of people who are going to die the worst death imagination because certain people can't control their pride and hypocrisy. Please pray that God would soften the hearts of these hypocrites, that those experiencing this torture would be free to live their lives, and that justice would prevail.

We hear the deep anguish in your words and lift up this heavy burden before the Lord. The injustice, hypocrisy, and violence you describe grieve the heart of God, who is just, righteous, and full of compassion. Scripture tells us, "The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed" (Psalm 103:6 WEB), and we stand on this promise as we pray.

First, we must acknowledge that hypocrisy is a sin that God detests. Jesus rebuked the religious leaders of His day, saying, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness" (Matthew 23:27 WEB). Hypocrisy hardens the heart, blinds the eyes to truth, and leads to oppression. We pray for those who perpetrate such injustice, may the Holy Spirit convict them of their sin, break their pride, and turn their hearts toward repentance. "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (James 4:6 WEB). Lord, soften their hearts before it is too late.

For those enduring torture and persecution, we cry out for Your deliverance. You see their suffering, and You are near to the brokenhearted. "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit" (Psalm 34:18 WEB). We pray for their protection, strength, and freedom. May they experience Your peace that surpasses understanding, even in the midst of unimaginable pain. Give them courage to endure, knowing that You are their refuge and fortress.

We also pray for justice. The Bible is clear that God will not let the wicked go unpunished. "He will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil" (Ecclesiastes 12:14 WEB). We ask that You expose the deeds of darkness, hold oppressors accountable, and bring about righteous judgment in Your perfect timing. Let Your justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream (Amos 5:24 WEB).

However, we must also examine our own hearts. Are we, too, guilty of hypocrisy in any area of our lives? Do we hold others to standards we ourselves do not keep? Jesus warned, "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?" (Matthew 7:3 WEB). Let us repent of any double standards in our own lives and walk in humility and truth.

Finally, we must remember that our ultimate hope is not in earthly justice alone, but in the eternal justice of God. For those who suffer and even die for righteousness’ sake, Jesus promises, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 5:10 WEB). We pray that those who are persecuted would keep their eyes on Christ, who endured the cross for our sake, and that they would find their reward in Him.

Lord, we come before You now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can approach Your throne of grace. We ask for Your mercy on the oppressed, Your conviction on the oppressors, and Your justice to prevail. Break the chains of hypocrisy and pride, and let Your light shine in the darkness. Comfort those who mourn, strengthen those who are weak, and bring Your perfect peace. We trust in You, for You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who acts. In Jesus’ name, we pray. This weighs on us as we read it. The scale of cruelty you describe, people being tortured while the torturers carry on in pride and double standards, is genuinely horrifying. We feel the anguish in your words, and we believe God does too. Throughout Scripture, He expresses a special, burning concern for those who are crushed by the powerful. He is not indifferent to what you have laid before us, and neither are we.

When the wrong seems so vast and the actors so brazen, it can feel like shouting into a void. We don’t have a quick fix for global evil, but we know that bringing it before the Lord together is never nothing. Your cry for justice, for the softening of hardened hearts, and for the freedom of those being ground down is the kind of prayer that aligns with God’s own character. He hates hypocrisy. He sees every hidden act. And in ways we cannot yet grasp, He will set all things right.

Let’s lift up exactly what you have asked for:

Lord Jesus, You know the specific people and places behind this cry, the ones enduring torment and the ones whose hypocrisy and pride fuel it. We cannot name them all, but You do, with perfect, loving knowledge. We ask You to protect the vulnerable and grant them deliverance, comfort, and a way through. We pray You would soften the hearts of the oppressors, breaking through their self-justifications until they see themselves clearly and turn from the evil they are doing. And we ask that Your justice, true and uncorrupted, would break in where human systems fail. Come to the aid of those who suffer, we plead, in Your mighty and merciful name. Amen.

The cry of your heart reaches up from the depths of a world where hypocrites do indeed bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. This age is full of shams, and pretence never stood in so eminent a position as it does at the present hour. The leaven of the Pharisees spreads, and men are tortured in body and soul by those whose own lives are riddled with the very sins they profess to punish. It is a bitter and hideous thing.

Yet consider what such torment reveals. Judgment may produce a carnal repentance, a repentance that is of the flesh and after the manner of the sinful nature of men; a kind of rest of conscience which lulls them to sleep and enables them to return to their sin as if nothing had happened. The hypocrite’s heart, unless broken by a work of divine grace, hardens itself under the very strokes it deals to others. His outward zeal is a shield for inward corruption. Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees; we are bidden to pray, and so we do, that God would shatter such shields and lay bare the conscience. A broken spirit is one out of which hypocrisy has gone. That vessel, whole and sealed up, may contain the foulest filth; break it, and you will soon see. There is no hypocrisy about a broken heart. We ask that the all-seeing God, apprehended in the conscience, would be the death of their hypocrisy, for they cannot try to deceive when they know that God is looking at them.

As for those who groan under this unequal yoke, their suffering is not unnoticed. The Lord does not drive to repentance as a fugitive, but the sweetest and best repentance is drawn by cords of love. When the oppressed are made to feel the very fires of injustice, it often yields a cry that is truest repentance, a repentance that gives God glory, that vindicates His justice even when the stroke seems to fall from a wicked hand. True repentance gives God the glory of His justice. The believer, even when condemned by man, smites his breast and says, "O sinner that I am," and yet can utter no complaint against God’s justice. In the furnace of this tribulation, many a sufferer learns a humility and a dependence upon Christ that prosperity never taught. Their tears become the rainbow made of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work.

What then of the plea for justice? The goodness of God leads you to repentance. It does not merely demand justice with a rod, but it draws with merciful cords. We pray that this goodness, manifest even in the restraint not yet given way to, in the breath still in the lungs of the oppressor, would break the proud heart. If the persecutor will not hear the voice of mercy, then justice unimpeachable will speak. When the sinner stands condemned at the last, there is no doubt about the justice of the punishment. Every wave of torment shall bear some dreadful sentence he read in God’s Word, perhaps even from his own lips.

But for you who feel this weight, let none put their repenting into the place of Christ. Repentance and remission are so joined together that wherever we find true repentance, that godly sorrow for sin that needs not to be repented of, there is full and free forgiveness. Look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only. The repentance that purges the soul from dead works, and the faith that fills the soul with living works, this is the gift of God preached in Christ’s name. May the Lord grant such a spirit to the tortured, that their souls be kept in perfect peace, and to the torturer, that his heart of stone be taken away, lest he perish in his hypocrisy. This is the prayer: that justice would roll down, but that it would come as the handmaid of mercy, slaying the sin to spare the sinner, all to the glory of the God who is both just and the justifier of him that believeth in Jesus.

A bitter root chokes the soul of those who condemn others for the very deeds they themselves commit in darkness. Their judgment will be measured back to them, for the day of revelation is coming when the secrets of all hearts are laid bare, and the whited sepulcher is smashed open to show its bones. Not one hidden act escapes the treasury of wrath they heap up for themselves. You need not fear that God is blind to this cruelty. Every tear of the tortured cries out, and the delay is not forgetfulness but a summons to repentance that they despise.

Yet there is still repentance, if it is real. Not the false grief that weeps only for loss or exposure, like Esau howling with no change of heart, but the grief that cuts deep and turns the whole man around. The door stands open for the hypocrite while breath remains, for the one who has stained his hands with blood may still wash them clean if he will truly rend his heart and not his garments. Pray, yes, that the terror of judgment might break through their pride and soften what is stone. But do not imagine that God is mocked by outward shows or weeping that still clutches the knife.

Justice will prevail because the Judge is righteous. Until that hour, the freedom you long for is found in clinging to the promise of a better resurrection, the one those martyrs saw when they refused deliverance. Their tormentors are not free, but slaves to corruption, while the suffering are carried in the hand of God. Let your prayer be not only for their deliverance but for the true repentance of the wicked, which is the only path away from the vengeance stored up for them. If they will not turn, their condemnation is just, and the day of revelation will make it plain.

The weight of what you are describing is heavy indeed. When those who claim a standard of righteousness quietly indulge the very things they condemn in others, it creates a cruel and uneven scale. Jesus warned his disciples to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. That word means wearing a mask. It is pretending to be something you are not, and it has been a curse wherever it takes root. God is not indifferent to it. He sees the mask. He will, in his time, expose what is hidden, and the purifying that follows can bring power and life where there was only decay.

You pray that God would soften the hearts of these hypocrites. That is exactly the right prayer, but we should be clear about what that softening must become. There is a sorrow of the world that only mourns the consequences of sin, the shame of being found out, or the loss of a desired blessing. That kind of sorrow brings death and leaves a person unchanged, still clutching their sin. The tears of a hypocrite, without change, are not repentance; they are bitterness and self-pity. What you are asking for, and what God requires, is a godly sorrow that leads to a true change. It is a turning, a letting go of the old life, a death to the very pride and indulgence they are using to condemn others. The soft heart is the one that repents and bears the fruit of real change.

For those being tortured, your cry for their freedom is a holy one. There is a freedom that our world constantly misunderstands. Many chase a counterfeit freedom, a supposed right to do whatever the flesh desires, but they end up in the most miserable bondage. They are chained to their compulsions, not free at all. True freedom is not the liberty to do destructive things; it is the glorious freedom not to have to do them. It is the power of Christ to open the prison doors for those who are bound. We pray that this real liberty would break into their lives, that in spirit and in circumstance they would be released from the grip of their oppressors, delivered not just from the torture, but into the unshakable freedom that belongs to a child of God.

And justice? Yes, we must cry out for it. The world’s courts are often broken. Truth stumbles in the street, and equity cannot enter. Yet our hope does not rest in failing human systems. God is a God of justice, and he will not be discouraged until he has established true righteousness in the earth. The King who comes with healing in his wings also comes with judgment. His justice is not a distant idea; it is a person, Jesus Christ, who will make all things right. He will not be swayed by a mask. He will render to each according to what they have done. Your prayer for justice to prevail is a prayer that aligns with the very heartbeat of the coming kingdom. Take courage in this: the Lord sees the suffering, he sees the mask, and he will have the final word.
