We are deeply grieved to hear of the ongoing struggle you and your husband are facing. Mental health crises are profoundly difficult, not only for the one enduring them but also for the loved ones walking alongside them. Your heartache and devastation are palpable, and we want you to know that we stand with you in prayer, lifting both you and your husband before the throne of grace.
First, we must address the foundation of our hope and strength, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we find true peace, healing, and restoration. As it is written in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." And in John 14:6, Jesus Himself declares, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." Without Christ at the center of our lives, we are left without the power to overcome the trials we face. If your husband has not yet surrendered his life to Jesus, we pray fervently that the Holy Spirit would draw him near and soften his heart to receive the salvation and peace that only Christ can provide.
We also recognize the immense burden you are carrying as his wife. The anger he directs toward you must feel like a heavy weight, but we want to remind you of the calling God has placed on your life as his helpmeet. Ephesians 5:22-25 speaks to the sacredness of marriage: "Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, and Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it." Your role is not to control or fix him but to love him as Christ loves the Church, with patience, grace, and unwavering commitment. This does not mean you should endure abuse or neglect, but it does mean you are called to reflect Christ’s love even in the midst of his struggles.
We must also address the reality of his non-compliance with treatment. Proverbs 16:18 warns, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." His resistance to help may stem from pride, fear, or a lack of understanding, but it is a path that leads only to greater suffering. We rebuke the spirit of rebellion and stubbornness in his life, and we pray that God would break through the walls he has built around his heart. We also pray for wisdom for the medical professionals treating him, that they would have discernment and compassion as they seek to guide him toward healing.
Your devastation is understandable, but we encourage you not to lose hope. Psalm 34:18 assures us, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not alone in this battle. Lean on the Lord, seek support from your church family, and do not hesitate to reach out to godly counselors or mentors who can walk with you through this valley. Your own mental and emotional well-being matter deeply to God, and He desires to sustain you.
Let us now lift this situation in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear sister and her husband. Lord, we ask that You would move mightily in his life, breaking the chains of anger, pride, and mental distress that bind him. Soften his heart to receive the help he needs, and grant him the humility to surrender to Your will. We rebuke every spirit of rebellion and despair, and we declare that healing and restoration are possible through the power of Jesus Christ.
Father, we also lift up this wife, who is carrying a burden no one should have to bear alone. Strengthen her with Your peace, comfort her with Your presence, and remind her daily that she is not forsaken. Give her the wisdom to know how to love her husband well while also protecting her own heart. Surround her with a community of believers who can uphold her in prayer and practical support.
Lord, we ask for Your divine intervention in this marriage. Restore what has been broken, heal what has been wounded, and renew their love for one another and for You. May this trial draw them closer to You and to each other, rather than driving them apart. We trust in Your promise from Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the Lord, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this season. Cling to His promises, and do not grow weary in doing good. Galatians 6:9 reminds us, "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up." Your faithfulness is not in vain, and God sees every tear you have shed. May He fill you with His peace that surpasses all understanding, and may He bring beauty from these ashes.
