Beloved of All
"We bow our knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, asking He would grant us, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power and might through His Spirit in the inner person, that Christ may dwell in our hearts' through faith; that we, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all those God has made holy, what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen, Eph 3:14-20."

We join with you in praying this glorious prayer of the apostle Paul and we make it our own together before the Father.

We love how you have lifted up Eph 3:14-20, for it shows the heart of God for His people to be strengthened not in outward power but in the inner person. As it is written, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, that you may be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inward person, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and height and depth, and to know Christ's love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God Eph 3:16-19.

This is not a prayer for a distant blessing but for a present reality. Christ dwells in our hearts through faith, and as we are rooted and grounded in love like a tree with deep roots and a building with a firm foundation Col 2:7, we are enabled by the Holy Spirit to begin to grasp the incomprehensible love of Christ. It passes knowledge and yet we are called to know it by experience, for the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us Rom 5:5. Though our outer person is decaying, yet our inward person is renewed day by day 2 Cor 4:16 when we ask for His strength.

We bow our knees together with you now.

Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, we thank You for Your great riches in glory. We ask according to those riches that You would strengthen each of us with power and might through Your Spirit in our inner being. Lord Jesus, dwell richly in our hearts through faith and make Your home there. Root us and ground us in Your love so that we do not waver. Open the eyes of our hearts to comprehend with all Your holy people the width and length and depth and height of the love of Christ which surpasses all knowledge. Fill us to overflowing with all Your fullness, that Your life and character may be formed in us. We trust You who are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. To You be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray this prayer daily for yourself, for your family, and for the church. It is a prayer God delights to answer because it is according to His will and for His glory. Be assured that He hears and He is at work within us, and His love will sustain and keep us as we walk by faith.

We were so encouraged to read your prayer and the longing in it to know Christ more deeply and to be strengthened inside by His Spirit. It is a beautiful thing to ask, and we are grateful to join you in it.

What has helped us over time is remembering that this kind of growth is usually slow and quiet, not all at once. There are highs and lows, and God is at work in both. We do not have to manufacture it on our own. The Holy Spirit is our helper and counselor, and He works as we stay close to the Lord through His Word, through honest prayer like the one you prayed, and through worship and fellowship with other believers. Each person's walk looks a little different, and God meets us in our own unique way as we keep turning to Him.

One simple next step that many find steadying is to keep praying that same prayer in your own words for a few minutes each day this week, and to linger with a short passage of Scripture without rushing, asking the Spirit to make Christ's love more real to you.

Father, we bring our friend before You and ask that You strengthen them in their inner being by Your Spirit, that Christ would dwell richly in their heart through faith, and that they would know more of Your love that goes beyond understanding. Fill them with Your presence and keep them rooted in You. In Jesus' name, amen.

How sweet and scriptural is the petition you have brought before the throne, for it is itself the very prayer of the apostle. You have asked according to the riches of His glory, that you might be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, and that you being rooted and grounded in love may comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height, and know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

This is no mere outward form, for the Holy Spirit teacheth us not to magnify rites but to magnify Christ, and His great work is to glorify the Lord Jesus. Our sin puts a veil between us and Christ, and the Holy Spirit comes and takes the veil away that we may see Him. Only when the Holy Spirit comes is there any life and force and power to glorify Christ as we ought. We may pant and long and pray to honor our Master, but we shall only fail unless the Holy Spirit holds us up and strengthens us, and therefore our entire dependence must be upon Him.

Do you feel your weakness, your need of power in the inner person, your desire to know more of that love which yet passes knowledge. Then cry mightily unto God for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. He is the Spirit of holiness, of consolation and of enlightening, and where He dwells, Christ dwells. Live near to Christ and give yourselves up fully to His divine anointing and bedewing, and you shall not doubt His presence. Pray in the Holy Spirit, by the Holy Spirit and through the Holy Spirit, for He will help your infirmities and teach you how to pray, and keep you in the love of God.

Let us bow our knees together unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. O Father, according to the riches of Thy glory, grant to this Thy servant to be strengthened with power and might through Thy Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in the heart by faith. Root and ground this soul in love, and open the eyes of the understanding to comprehend with all Thy holy ones the dimensions of that love of Christ which passeth knowledge, and fill this life to overflowing with all Thy fulness. We ask not by our own strength, but by the power that worketh in us, and we ascribe unto Thee who art able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We join you in bowing our knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with this prayer from Ephesians 3.

It is good that you have asked in this way, for to understand the love of God is not a small thing and it does not come by mere reasoning. Even Paul had to pray for it, and we too need the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to comprehend it. The love of Christ is so great that it passes all human knowledge, yet when Christ dwells in our hearts through faith we begin to know it. That dwelling is not distant or abstract. It is Christ himself living within the inner person, making us rooted and grounded in love.

What you have asked, to be strengthened with power and might through His Spirit in the inner person, is the very work of the Spirit. The Spirit points us to Christ and makes Christ known to us. He is shed abroad in our hearts in great profusion, not sparingly, and this gift is given even before our labors are complete, to show the warmth of God's love toward us. Through that strength we are enabled to walk by the Spirit and to grow in love, and love in turn makes us more ready to receive the Spirit and to keep Him abiding in us.

To know the width and length and depth and height of the love of Christ is to see that it is transcendent and beyond measure, yet it has been shown to us in the cross and in the grace given to us. And to be filled to all the fullness of God is to be filled with all virtue and with the true knowledge of how God is worshipped as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, lacking nothing that God desires to give.

So we pray with you, according to the riches of His glory, that God would grant you this inner strength by His Spirit, that Christ may dwell more and more in your heart through faith, that you would be firmly rooted in love and enabled with all the saints to grasp more of that love which surpasses knowledge, and that you would be filled with all the fullness of God. We trust Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Your prayer reflects the deep desire God Himself places in His children, to be strengthened in the inner being, to have Christ truly at home in the heart, and to know His love more fully. This is what is prayed for in Ephesians, that according to the riches of His glory the Father would grant us to be strengthened with power and might through His Spirit in the inner person.

That strength does not come from our own resolve or from human methods. It comes only through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. Before we came to Jesus our spirit was dead, and we could not produce this kind of life on our own. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power that now gives life to us and sets us free from the law of sin and death. By the Spirit we are able to put to death the deeds of the flesh and to walk in newness of life. We cannot be like Jesus or live as He calls us to live in our own strength, but through the power of the Holy Spirit He transforms us and conforms us into the image of Christ.

When that power is at work, Christ dwells in our hearts through faith. Scripture teaches that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit whom you have from God, and that if the Spirit of God dwells in you, you belong to Him. He has sealed us with the Spirit as the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of what He has purchased. He writes His law on our hearts and directs our desires, so that we live unto Him.

The evidence that He is truly abiding in us is love. The fruit of the Spirit is love, and that one fruit expresses itself in joy, peace, patience and all the rest. An outward display is not the proof of His presence, for such things can be counterfeited, but a genuine love for God and for His people is. God is love, and when His Spirit is in us His love is perfected in us. We cannot manufacture this love or work it up by determination. It is love in the realm of the spirit, given only by the Spirit as we dwell in God and God dwells in us. Being rooted and grounded in love, we learn to love one another with a pure and sincere heart. That love builds others up, and for that reason we put away bitterness, wrath, anger and unwholesome speech, so that we do not grieve the Holy Spirit who is holy and pure.

As you are rooted in that love you are able to begin to comprehend with all those who are made holy what is the width and length and depth and height of the love of Christ which passes knowledge. It is a love that first loved us and now constrains us, and nothing can separate us from it. Not tribulation or distress or persecution or any other power can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus.

And the prayer moves to its full purpose, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God, not just a small measure but to overflowing. This is the work of the Spirit to fill you and empower you to live a victorious life in Christ and to be a witness of Him, which you could never do alone.

We join you in this prayer, asking the Father to grant you this strengthening in your inner person, to make Christ more and more at home in your heart through faith, to deepen your understanding of His vast love, and to fill you with His fullness. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
