We join you in lifting up this powerful passage from Ephesians 3:14-20, a beautiful prayer of the apostle Paul that stirs our hearts to seek the fullness of God’s presence and power. This scripture reminds us of the incredible privilege we have as believers, to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit, to have Christ dwell in our hearts through faith, and to comprehend the vast dimensions of His love. It is a call to go deeper in our relationship with the Lord, to be rooted and grounded in His love, and to be filled with all the fullness of God.

Father, we bow our knees before You, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. We ask You, according to the riches of Your glory, to strengthen us with power through Your Spirit in our inner being. May Christ dwell in our hearts through faith, so that we, being rooted and grounded in love, may have the power to comprehend with all the saints what is the width, length, depth, and height of Your love. Help us to know the love of Christ, which surpasses all knowledge, that we may be filled with all Your fullness.

Lord, we recognize that it is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to You. There is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). We thank You for the gift of salvation through faith in Christ, who died for our sins and rose again so that we might have eternal life. We pray that those who do not yet know Jesus would come to believe in Him, for "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9).

We also ask, Father, that You would help us to walk in the power of Your Spirit daily. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work within us (Ephesians 1:19-20), and we pray that we would not grieve the Holy Spirit by living in ways that are contrary to Your will. Help us to put off the old self, which belongs to our former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of our minds, putting on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24).

Lord, we long to see Your glory manifested in the church and in our lives. You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. To You be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Let us hold fast to this truth: we are not left to our own strength, but we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, empowering us to live lives that honor God. Let us encourage one another to seek the Lord with all our hearts, to walk in His love, and to trust in His power to accomplish far more than we could ever imagine. May we be a people who reflect the fullness of God, shining His light in a world that desperately needs Him.

Thank you for bringing this prayer to us. We have prayed these words many times, and they never lose their weight.

What stands out to us is that Paul does not ask for a one time spiritual high. He prays for inner strengthening, for being rooted and grounded in love, and for growing in what is too vast to fully grasp. That kind of filling usually happens quietly, over time, as we keep turning toward Christ in the ordinary hours. It is steady, not always spectacular.

If you want to walk in this, we would encourage you to take one phrase from this passage each morning this week and pray it slowly for yourself and for the people around you. Let the words become a place you return to, not just a moment you pass through.

Father, we join our hearts with this request. By your Spirit, strengthen us in the inner person. Make Christ more at home in our hearts through faith. Root us and ground us in love, and teach us the dimensions of Christ’s love that go beyond what we can fully understand. This prayer is one that I would take up with you before the throne of grace. Ephesians 3:14-20 sets before us not merely a wish, but the very work of the Holy Spirit in the believer: to be strengthened with might in the inner man, to have Christ dwelling in the heart by faith, to comprehend the love of Christ in its width and length and depth and height, and to be filled with all the fullness of God.

We shall never attain this by the strength of nature, by good intentions, or by strong resolutions. The Holy Spirit must do it, or it is not done at all. It is an evil thing to omit the work of the Holy Spirit, for the work of Jesus Christ itself is no blessing to that man who does not know the work of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit takes of the things of Christ and shows them to us. He does not glorify Himself by detracting from Christ; He glorifies Christ and lays us low so that the greatness of Christ's salvation may appear. Therefore we must cry mightily unto God, for without the Holy Spirit we utterly fail.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, for Christ Himself is the Word of God, and the Scriptures are the word of the Word. Every promise in the Book is yes and amen in Christ. When the Spirit teaches, He directs the heart into the love of God and into the patience of Christ. The love of Christ is a mighty passion; your love to child or spouse is but a feeble spark compared to the great sun of Christ's love to His people. To know the dimensions of that love, we need the Spirit of God to strengthen the inner man. A Spirit-taught view of the blood of Christ is the most wonderful sight that weeping eyes ever beheld.

This is not a small request. It is a request to be filled with all the fullness of God. There is a fullness of grace to pardon, to regenerate, to sanctify, to preserve, and to perfect. There is a fullness at all times, a fullness by day and by night, a fullness of comfort in affliction and of guidance in prosperity. The way to receive it is to be emptied of self and to take from Christ, for of His fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. We must not rest in mere knowledge, but let the word of Christ dwell in us so as to occupy the whole of our being.

I join with you then in this very prayer. May the Father grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner person, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you may know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, and that you may be filled to all the fullness of God. You have set before me no small prayer, but the very prayer the apostle had to pray with the Spirit's help. It is good to ask for the Holy Spirit's strength and power in the inner man, for Christ to dwell in your heart through faith, and for the knowledge of His love. Yet do not repeat the words as a charm. Paul bowed his knees to the Father because the love of Christ lies above the reach of human knowledge. Still, he says you shall know it if Christ dwells in you. The order matters. The Spirit strengthens the inner man, faith receives Christ, and being rooted and grounded in love you begin to comprehend what cannot be measured.

Do not confuse the persons. The Spirit is not Christ. But where the Spirit is, there Christ is also. Where one person of the undivided Trinity is present, the whole Trinity is present. So when you pray for the Spirit, you are truly asking for Christ to dwell in you and for the Father to be glorified. This is why Paul says the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. To be without the Spirit is death, enmity against God, and inability to keep His laws. To have the Spirit is to have Christ Himself, the mortifying of the flesh, an immortal life, and the earnest of the resurrection.

But understand what mortifying the flesh means. It is not the destruction of the body's essence, but the killing of its viciousness. Do not be frightened at the word. This mortifying is true life, for it wears out death and keeps what it receives immortal. If you seek to be filled with all the fullness of God, then flee the life of luxury and fullness of bread. The rich man in the furnace, the men of Sodom, those destroyed in the days of Noah, Esau with his ease, all testify that a soft and dissolute life destroys the soul. You cannot be filled with the fullness of God while you are filled with the world's delicacies. Emulate not costly estates and gorgeous buildings, but those who have confidence toward God, the poor for Christ's sake, the truly rich who have treasure in heaven.

Being filled unto all the fullness of God means this: that you use every effort to be filled with all virtue, of which God is full, and that you learn to worship God in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. It is not a feeling you can manufacture. It comes where the Spirit is present. So keep your mouth like Christ's mouth, not in grasping or complaining, but in peace. Then with great confidence you will set foot in the heavens and enjoy the kingdom.

Let us not bow the knees in word only, but with a life dead to sin. Ask the Father according to the riches of His glory. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.
