🧎🏽‍♂️"For THIS PRAYER we bow our knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, asking He would grant us, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power and might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in our hearts' through faith; that we, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints, what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen, Eph 3:14-20."

We lift up this powerful prayer from Ephesians 3:14-20, echoing the apostle Paul’s cry for the believers to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit, to know the vast dimensions of Christ’s love, and to be filled with the fullness of God. This passage is a profound reminder of the spiritual depth and power available to us through faith in Jesus Christ. It is only through His name that we have access to the Father, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, bowing our knees to You, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. We ask that You would grant us, according to the riches of Your glory, to be strengthened with power through Your Spirit in our inner being. May Christ dwell in our hearts through faith, so that we, being rooted and grounded in love, may have the strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the width, length, depth, and height of Your love. Lord, Your love surpasses all knowledge, and we long to be filled with all the fullness of God. We acknowledge that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. To You be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

This prayer is a beautiful declaration of our dependence on the Holy Spirit and our desire to grow in the knowledge of Christ’s love. However, we must also examine our hearts to ensure that our lives align with the truth of God’s Word. Are we walking in a manner worthy of the calling we have received (Ephesians 4:1)? Are we living in a way that reflects the love and holiness of Christ, or are there areas where we have strayed from His commands?

Scripture warns us that without holiness, no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). If there are areas of sin in our lives, whether it be sexual immorality, idolatry, hatred, jealousy, or any other work of the flesh, we must repent and turn away from them. The Holy Spirit dwells within us to convict us of sin and lead us into all truth (John 16:8, 13). Let us not grieve the Spirit by clinging to unrighteousness but instead submit ourselves fully to God’s will.

We also encourage you to seek fellowship with other believers who can spur you on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24). The Christian walk is not meant to be lived in isolation. As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another (Proverbs 27:17). Surround yourself with godly men and women who can encourage you in your faith and hold you accountable.

Finally, we remind you that the power to live a godly life comes from the Holy Spirit, not from our own strength. It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). So let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).

May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26). Go forth in the strength and power of the Holy Spirit, knowing that Christ dwells in your heart through faith, and that His love for you is beyond measure.

What a gift it is to sit with these words alongside you. This isn’t just a beautiful passage, it’s a prayer that stretches toward the deepest things we can ask for each other and for ourselves. We’re glad you brought it here so we can make it our own together.

One thing we’ve learned as we’ve prayed this way over time: being “rooted and grounded in love” and grasping the dimensions of Christ’s love rarely happens in a single, dramatic moment. It’s almost always a slow, steady work, the kind that happens as we keep showing up in prayer, in Scripture, and in the mess of real relationships even when we don’t feel especially strong or full. The Spirit strengthens us in the inner person not by lifting us out of ordinary life but by training us right inside it, little by little, like muscles that grow through consistent, small acts of trust. Paul’s prayer was for a community, not just isolated individuals, and sometimes the love that surpasses knowledge becomes tangible to us precisely through the saints we’d least expect.

So we join you in bowing our knees, asking not just for a flash of insight but for the kind of deep, lasting formation that holds steady when emotions dip and circumstances disappoint.

Father, we ask now for our friend who offered this prayer: grant real, daily strength in the core of who they are through Your Spirit. Make Christ so at home in their heart through faith that love becomes their anchor and their compass. Let them taste just a little more of that vast, unknowable love today, in ways that steady their soul and spill over onto the people around them. Fill every hollow place with all Your fullness, and do far more than we’ve even thought to ask, for their good and Your glory, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer such as this bows the soul before the throne of the heavenly Father, and it is a plea after the very heart of God. What you have set before the Lord in this portion of Ephesians is no small petition, it is the cry for an inner strengthening by the Holy Spirit, that Christ might dwell in your heart by faith, and that you might be rooted and grounded in love. This is a prayer that lays hold upon the very fullness of God, and I am glad to see you wrestling with such words, for they are the language of a soul that hungers after more of Christ.

The apostle Paul here kneels not upon his own merit, but before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named. Mark well that this access to the Father comes through the Son, for there is no other way to perceive the love of God or to be filled with His Spirit. You cannot come to the Father except you come by Jesus Christ, who is the one Mediator between God and man. All the drawings of the Father are toward Christ, and the Holy Spirit’s work is ever to glorify Him. If we would be strengthened with might in the inner man, we must look to Christ, for in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. It pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell, fullness of atoning efficacy, fullness of justifying righteousness, fullness of sanctifying power, fullness of comfort in every trial. This fullness is not a distant storehouse locked up, but it is in Jesus now, and it is communicative to every believing sinner. From His fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.

You have asked that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. This is the hinge of the whole matter. Christ dwelling in the heart is the secret of all spiritual strength. It is not a mere influence or a transient visit, but an abiding indwelling. And how does He dwell there? By faith. Faith is the open hand that receives Him, the door that welcomes the King of glory. But remember, this faith is not of ourselves; it is the gift of God, and no man can come to Christ except the Father draw him. If you have come to Christ, it is because divine love has drawn you, and that same love will keep you. The love of Christ which passes knowledge is the very atmosphere in which the inner man grows strong. To know this love, its breadth embracing all nations, its length reaching from eternity to eternity, its depth going down to the deepest guilt, its height soaring to the throne of God, this is to be filled with all the fullness of God. And yet this love can never be fully measured, for it surpasses knowledge. It is the most excellent of all the sciences, and the soul that learns it is made wise unto salvation.

You long to be filled to overflowing with God’s Spirit. This is a holy ambition, and it delights the heart of the Lord. But remember that the fullness is in Christ, and it is by union with Him that we receive it. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in us who believe, and this power is available now. Do not think that you must wait for some future day to be strengthened, the power that will finally transform these vile bodies is the same power that operates in the church at this very hour. Cry mightily to the Lord Jesus, stir up the power that dwells in Him, and give Him no rest until He puts forth that energy in your soul. The conquering power over sin, the sanctifying energy, the strength to suffer and to conquer, all these are yours in Him. You need not fear that the fullness in Christ will ever be exhausted. It is as infinite as the Godhead itself, and it is permanent, enduring forever. Let your praises abide where the fullness abides.

And what shall we say of love? The love of the Father is made known to us in the gift of His Son. Christ is ours, our Savior, our Friend, our Lord. When we grasp this by faith, we realize the glory of the Fatherhood of God, and in our feebleness we cling to divine strength. The love of Christ constrains us; it is not a cold duty but a burning affection. The more we comprehend the depths of our sin and the freeness of His forgiveness, the more our love will be kindled. This love will manifest itself in devotion, in a life laid down for Him, in an eagerness to do His will. It is the voluntariness of our service that is the excellence of it; everything in the religion of Christ is of love. If you know this love, you need not be ashamed in any company, you know more than all the philosophers could teach.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. Go forward in this prayer, and let your faith expect great things. The power is not in your praying, but in the Christ to whom you pray. He is able, and He will do it. Only keep close to Jesus, and the Holy Spirit will strengthen you, Christ will dwell in you, and you will be filled with all the fullness of God.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

What you have set before the church is no mere human petition, but the very prayer of the Apostle Paul, breathed out by the Spirit for all the saints. In it he bows his knees to the Father, asking that we be strengthened with divine power in our inmost soul. This strength is not for the body, but for the inner man, that it may stand unshaken against every trial and carnal reasoning. For there is no other way to be made strong except by the Holy Spirit; He alone can fortify the heart and make it a fit dwelling place for Christ.

When he prays that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, he shows that this indwelling is the root of love and the source of all knowledge. Though the love of Christ lies beyond all human understanding, yet you will truly know it if you have Christ abiding in you. Out of this root, love grows deep and firm, so that you may be able to grasp with all the saints the vast dimensions of His mercy, the breadth, length, height, and depth, the immensity of God’s love that extends everywhere. This knowledge comes not by words or human wisdom, but by the Spirit’s demonstration of power in a life yielded to Him.

And the goal of all this is nothing less than to be filled with all the fullness of God. This does not mean joining the divine essence, but being filled with every virtue of which God is full, perfect love, wisdom, holiness, so that the whole Trinity may dwell richly within you. For as Christ loved the world, so the Father and the Spirit also love; and through the Spirit we have access to this inexhaustible love, though we receive but a measure, while Christ possesses it without measure.

Yet consider this: such a gift is not given to the slothful or to those who defile the temple of the Holy Spirit. The body is a temple of the Spirit which you have from God. If you would have Christ dwell in your heart and be filled with divine fullness, flee every sin, especially those that drag the members of Christ into corruption. The saints of old retained the unspeakable grace of the Spirit through a shining life, great labors, and contempt of earthly things. Press on, then, in virtue, that you may not merely ask this prayer with your lips but live it. Let your inner man be strengthened daily by the Spirit, let faith lay hold of Christ’s indwelling, let love root and ground you, and so you will comprehend that love which surpasses knowledge, until you are filled to overflowing with all the fullness of God. To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages. Amen.

What a rich passage you have brought before the Lord, taken from the very prayer the apostle prayed over the believers in Ephesus. There is no higher request than to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may settle down and make His home in your heart through faith. Everything in the Christian life flows from this inward work. Too often we look for outward signs or dramatic experiences, but the true evidence that the Spirit of God is doing His deep work is love. When He strengthens the inner man, the fruit is an increasing capacity to love, love for God and a genuine, unfeigned love for the brothers and sisters in Christ. That is the real proof, far beyond anything that can be counterfeited.

You are asking to be rooted and grounded in love, and that is exactly where comprehension begins. We cannot grasp the width, length, depth, and height of Christ’s love by mere intellect. His love surpasses knowledge. We come to know it only as we are held fast by it, as a tree sends its roots down into the soil and draws life. This is not our love for Him first, but His love for us, the love that took Him to the cross, willing to bear our sin and separation, that we might be brought near. As you begin to see, even dimly, how much God loves you in spite of every failure, that vision changes you. It constrains you. It melts your heart and draws you away from lesser things, just as He once pleaded with His people, “Where is the love of our espousals?” He wants you to be captivated again by the beauty of His love, to remember it more than wine.

And then comes the staggering request: that you might be filled with all the fullness of God. The heavens of heavens cannot contain Him, yet He purposes to fill you. How can this be? It happens as you dwell in love. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. When Christ is at home in your heart, and you are rooted and grounded in His love, the very life of God flows out. His love is perfected in you, not in flawlessness, but in completeness, shaping your motives, your responses, your treatment of others. You become a conduit of the same love that sought you when you were alienated and far off.

This prayer does not end with our small capacity. It finishes by looking to the One who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. He is at work right now, even as you bend your knee to the Father. Do not measure the answer by your feelings or by your circumstances. The same God who gathered together in one all things in Christ, bringing Gentiles into the covenant promises, is the God who can cause you to know a love that surpasses knowledge and fill you with His fullness. Let this prayer shape your quiet moments. Ask Him daily for this strengthening. Expect the Spirit to produce greater love in you, love that covers, love that serves, love that lights your path so you do not stumble. That is the life of a child of God, not walking as the world walks, but responding to the constraining love of Christ. May you indeed be enriched in His love and in all things in Christ Jesus.
