Your desire to hear the Lord speak and to be led by His Spirit is good, and we join you in bringing this before the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we come to God and through whom He lives to make intercession for us.
We thank God with you that you want to hear Him first and above all through the Bible. As you quoted, we must look to His Word rather than to the noise of the world, for the Word is the sure test of all else. The prophet Isaiah taught us to look to the law and to the testimony, and if any voice does not speak according to that Word, there is no light in it. Every message from the pulpit, every counsel, every dream or vision, every sense of leading must be weighed by Scripture.
The Scriptures teach us both to welcome the work of the Spirit and to test what claims to be from Him. Do not quench the Spirit, do not despise prophesyings, but prove all things, hold fast that which is good, and abstain from every form of evil. God has indeed poured out His Spirit abundantly after the cross and resurrection of Christ. Before that time the gift was limited, but after Christ was glorified the Holy Spirit was given richly, not only to rest upon a few prophets but to dwell in all who believe, giving us not a spirit of bondage but the Spirit of adoption, as an earnest of our inheritance until the full redemption comes. That same Spirit still works, still illumines, still empowers, and still leads the children of God.
Because the Spirit is given as an earnest and as a pledge, He leads us toward holiness and not only toward experiences. It is not merely freedom from sin that makes a person holy, but the presence of the Spirit and the wealth of good works that He produces. So we pray with you that the fire of the Spirit would burn up what is thorn filled in the heart, that the field of the heart would be broken up and made ready for the seed of the Word, and that you, your wife, your children, your friends, your churches, your pastors and leaders would walk in lowliness of mind and self restraint, shining with temperance and purity even in a dark world. In a time that is like a moonless night, God has kindled a bright lamp in our souls by His Spirit, and we are called to keep it burning brightly and not to extinguish it by sin or neglect.
We therefore pray that God will speak to you, your wife, your families and your prayer and financial partners through the ordinary and faithful means He has appointed, the Scriptures read and preached, the wise counsel of godly people, the divine appointments He orders, and the quiet leading of the Spirit who dwells in you. If He in His wisdom also gives a dream, a vision, or a striking providence as He did for Joseph, for the Magi, and for others, we ask that He would give you clear discernment to recognize it and humble confidence to test it by His Word, so that you are not led astray by fear, deception, or the work of the evil one. We do not seek signs in the heavens as our foundation, but we look to Christ Himself, who is our light, stronger than darkness, and we trust that nothing is impossible with God and no purpose of His can be thwarted.
So we bring your requests before Him with thanksgiving, asking for His incomprehensible peace to guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. We ask that He keep you all from temptation, from evil, from lies and from the snares of the evil one, and that He would guide your steps, your marriages, your families and your churches in the way of truth and righteousness. May He grant you ears to hear the Shepherd's voice as you follow Him, and may He fill you more and more with His Spirit until you bear much fruit to His glory.
We continue to pray that you will grow in faith, in love, and in obedience, holding fast to what is good, and that you will know more deeply the hope of the inheritance to come, of which the Spirit is the pledge. May the grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
