Beloved of All
Your prayer is a beautiful echo of what Paul prayed for the believers in Ephesus, and it is exactly the kind of prayer God delights to answer. To ask for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know Him better is to ask for what He already desires to give you, a deeper, personal knowledge of Himself that goes beyond information to relationship.
When Scripture speaks of the eyes of your heart being flooded with light, it is speaking of your inner person, the place God searches and knows. People look on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. He knows your thoughts from afar, and He created you for the pleasure of fellowship with Him. He does not want a distant or merely legal connection with you, but a loving relationship where what you do flows from love for Him. To be enlightened in this way is to begin to see as He sees, to understand the hope of His calling for you, and to grasp how much He values you. The riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints means you are His treasured possession, and He wants you to know how precious you are to Him.
We come to know what God is like by looking at Jesus. He is the true witness of God, the revelation of God to us. As Scripture says, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. When God declares He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the ending, and Jesus declares the same, we understand they are one. To see Jesus is to see the Father unveiled. And the same surpassing power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at the right hand of power in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, both in this age and the age to come, is the power now directed toward you who believe. It is not a distant power but a present reality for those who trust in Him.
There is a spiritual realm around us that our natural eyes cannot see, but God is able to open our understanding to perceive His truth and His presence. His throne is the center of all reality, and the worship of heaven declares His holiness and His eternal nature as the One who was and is and is to come, the One outside of time who simply is. To know Him in this way brings worship that is in spirit and in truth, not confined to a place or ritual, but lived everywhere from a heart that loves Him.
I join you in this prayer, asking the Father to give you that spirit of wisdom and revelation, to flood your heart with light, to make real to you the hope you have in Christ, the certainty of your inheritance, and the greatness of His power at work in your life. May you grow in knowing Him more each day through Jesus Christ, and may His goodness draw your heart ever closer to Him.
