Your prayer reflects a sincere desire to abide in Christ and to have His words abide in you, and we join you in that desire. We thank God that you look to His Word as a lamp to your feet and a light to your path, and that you want to test everything according to the Law and the Testimony.

Scripture teaches that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. The Church is brought to her Bridegroom by His voice and teaching. That is the ordinary and sure way the Holy Spirit speaks today, through the Bible opened to us, through faithful preaching from the pulpit, through godly counsel, and through the Shepherd's voice heard when we abide in His love and keep His commandments. As you have quoted, blessed is the promise that Jesus lives to make intercession for all who come to God through Him, and that He is able to save completely those who trust in Him alone. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and there is no other name by which we are saved.

You have asked that God would speak also by extraordinary means, by visions and dreams and warnings in the night, as He once did with Joseph, the Magi, Abimelech and others. God is sovereign and the Spirit blows where He wills, and none can restrain His operations. He is able to warn, to turn a person from wrongdoing and to keep one from pride, to preserve life from the pit, as Job describes. We do not limit His power, and His arm is not too short to save. Yet we also remember that we are not to be over anxious about how the Spirit works, as if we could trace the path of the wind. Our calling is to be awake and attentive to what is clearly revealed. Much of what passes for spiritual life today can be like slumber and dreaming. We need to be awakened to the Sun of Righteousness, to hear His plain voice in Scripture with repentance and tears, rather than chasing experiences. Any dream, vision, impression or prophecy must be tested by the written Word. If it does not agree with Scripture, it is not from God.

We join you in prayer for this husband, for his wife who has wandered, for their children and family and extended family, for ministry partners, church leaders and churches. Marriage is a bond ordained by God, honorable and pure. It is meant to preserve holiness, to keep husband and wife faithful to one another in chaste and orderly love. When that bond is broken by sin, the wound is deep, but God calls the wandering heart to turn back, to forsake impurity and to walk again in faithfulness. We do not ask God to bless waywardness or any relationship outside His design of one man and one woman in lifelong covenant, where alone sexual union belongs. We ask Him to convict of sin, to grant repentance, to heal what has been broken, and to restore what is holy.

So we pray with you that this husband would remain steadfast, bound in love and not seeking to be loosed, walking in a pure heart, a sincere faith and a blameless conscience. We pray that his wife would hear the voice of the Shepherd, that she would be turned from wrongdoing, kept from deception and pride, and preserved from the pit. We pray that both would be kept from temptation, from lies and fear, from evil people and from the evil one, and that their children would be guarded in the truth. We pray that your churches, families, pastors and leaders would know the peace of God that passes understanding as you make your requests known to Him with thanksgiving.

We agree that nothing is impossible with God, that light is stronger than darkness and darkness cannot overcome it, and that no purpose of His can be thwarted. Continue to abide in Christ, to let His Word dwell richly in you, to seek godly counsel, and to walk in holiness and peace with all. Trust the intercession of Christ for you, and rest in the confidence that He will do what He has promised and will give you everything needed for life and godliness as you follow Him.
