The prayer you have lifted from Ephesians 1 is a direct echo of what the Spirit is already doing in you, because no one seeks the deep knowledge of God unless the Father is drawing them. The very desire for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation is evidence that He has begun to open your eyes. Paul prayed this for believers who already had faith and love, and yet he knew there was so much more, an unveiling of who God truly is, a personal, intimate acquaintance that goes beyond mere information. That is what the word “epignosis” signals: not just knowing about Him, but knowing Him, the way a trusted friend is known.
That kind of knowing requires the enlightenment of the heart. We live surrounded by a spiritual reality that our physical senses cannot perceive, but God has given us His Spirit to search the deep things of God. In the book of Revelation, we see a picture of the eternal throne and the ceaseless worship of heaven. The cherubim cry out, “Holy, holy, holy,” declaring that the Lord God Almighty is the One who is and who was and who is to come. He inhabits all time at once; there is no past or future with Him. When the Holy Spirit grants wisdom and revelation, He brings us into an awareness of that timeless, holy presence right now, in the middle of our daily lives. This is not a distant hope, it is the birthright of every blood-bought child.
Your request hits three specific notes: the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance, and the surpassing greatness of His power. The hope of His calling is not a wishful maybe; it is a confident expectation anchored in the resurrection of Jesus. You are called out of darkness into light, and that calling carries a destiny that cannot be shaken. The inheritance is everything that belongs to Christ now shared with you, the tree of life in the paradise of God, a place as a pillar in His eternal temple, the new Jerusalem. The Spirit Himself is the down payment, the earnest, that guarantees you will receive the full purchased possession. Right now, despite your circumstances, you carry within you the pledge of infinitely more.
The power is the same divine energy that raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him at the right hand of the Father, far above every other authority, both in this age and the age to come. Do not measure that power by your feelings or your current struggles; measure it by the empty tomb and the exalted throne. The sevenfold Spirit, the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord, rested fully on Jesus, and He now imparts that same Spirit to His body, the church. This power is already at work toward you who believe. It is not about what you can do for God, but about receiving what He has done and is doing for you.
Continue to ask with boldness. The Father loves to answer this prayer because it opens the way for you to see Jesus as He truly is, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, the Lamb who is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and blessing. As the eyes of your heart are flooded with light, you will find yourself joining the worship that never stops. You will know Him. And that knowledge will become your strength.
