Your cry has come up unto God, and be assured He hears the groaning of those who are in bondage and distress. There are gradations in His pity, first the cry comes up unto God, sharp and shrill and intense it bursts through the gates of heaven, and then God hears the groaning. It is the cry of a soul in misery, and the Lord has not turned His ear from it.
Do not think the time has not come for you to approach the Saviour, or that you must wait for a better hour. He would not have you delay for a single hour. If you perish praying for mercy through the precious blood of Jesus Christ, you will be the first that ever perished so. Cry on, soul, cry on. While you can besiege the throne of mercy there is hope for you, but hear as well as cry, and believe what you hear, for it is by believing that peace is obtained.
This trial may be God's way of fetching you out of Egypt. He sometimes makes the house of bondage too hot for us, that we may long for deliverance and be willing to be led out by His hand. Your lot may be hard, but your help is near, for the eternal God is your helper. He has said, I will not fail you nor forsake you, and His comforts are like wells which no one can drain dry. His eyes do not fail, nor His arm either, though yours may fail as you look for comfort.
Therefore imitate the Psalmist and turn your eyes to God's Word, and pour out your heart before Him at all times. Do not pray so much for mere relief as for the Lord Himself. Let your prayer be, O God, You are my God, early will I seek You, my soul thirsts for You. Come as a beggar, not as a creditor. Come to crave, not to demand. Use only this argument, Lord, hear me, for You are gracious and Jesus died. I come as a condemned sinner who seeks pardon through His blood alone, for there is no other name by which we may be saved.
Here is pardon for transgressions past, it matters not how black their cast, and for sins to come here is pardon too, all blotted out at once with one stroke of the sacred pen through faith in Christ alone, who bore our sicknesses and carried our sorrows. Trust in Him at all times, hope in God, for you shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance. He will strengthen you and make you strong out of weakness, as you believe that He will help you to obey and to follow Him.
We will pray for you that you may now look to Christ and find in Him forgiveness, comfort, and strength to walk in His way. May the Lord draw you to Himself, keep you in His grace, and lead you into a better and happier place in fellowship with Him, to the praise of the glory of His grace.
