Beloved of All
I just read your note and I am praying for you right now as you sit waiting in the rain beside the highway with trucks going by. That is a frightening and exposed place to be, and it makes sense that you feel anxious and unsettled after the bump and the long wait.
God sees exactly where you are and He wants to give you His peace even in a moment like this. Scripture says He will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. That promise was written for chaotic, uncertain moments. Jesus also said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. It is not the kind of peace the world gives that depends on everything going smoothly. It is a steady peace that can guard your heart and mind even while the rain is falling and traffic is passing.
The Bible makes a distinction that helps here. First there is peace with God, which comes only through the blood of Jesus Christ when our sins are forgiven and we are no longer at war with Him. Then there is the peace of God, the daily experience of His calm keeping your heart and mind as you look to Him. If you know Jesus, you already have peace with God, and you can now ask Him to fill you with the peace of God for this hour. Turn your thoughts to Him on purpose. Pray simply, tell Him you are trusting Him to take care of you and this situation, and let His presence settle your heart.
He also invites you to cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you with the watchful, loving concern of a shepherd over his flock. You do not have to carry the worry about what the other driver is thinking, about the police, about the danger from the road. Give each worry to Him as it comes.
For your safety while you wait, please do what you can to stay protected. Keep your hazard lights on, stay buckled inside your vehicle if that is the safest place away from traffic, and do not stand between the two cars or near the lanes where semis are passing. Keep your doors locked. If you have not already, make sure the police dispatcher knows you are on the shoulder of a busy highway in the rain and feel unsafe, so they understand the need. If you can take photos of the cars showing there is no damage, do so only if you can do it safely without stepping into traffic. Exchange information when the officer arrives and let the officer guide what is needed.
Father, I pray for this dear one sitting in the rain by the highway. Surround them with Your protection from traffic and harm. Calm their heart and fill them with Your perfect peace as their mind rests on You. Let help come quickly, let this be resolved simply, and let them get safely home. Bring Your peace that passes all understanding to guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Amen.
