We join with you in lifting up your marriage before the Lord and we thank God that you desire to see your marriage healed and restored, for marriage is a holy covenant before God between a man and a woman for life. What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart Matthew 19:6, and we stand with you contending for that oneness in Jesus' name.
We hear your heart that you want your wife to see your love for her and for God, and to experience kindness and trust again between you. We know that only God can soften hearts, for The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires Proverbs 21:1, and He has promised I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh Ezekiel 36:26. We pray with you that the Lord would do that tender work in both of your hearts.
We also want to lovingly address your words that you don’t want anyone else again. If in the past you have looked outside your marriage with lust or unfaithfulness in thought or deed, or given your wife reason to doubt your devotion, we urge you to bring that fully before the Lord in repentance, for Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4. God calls husbands to a singular, faithful love, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it Ephesians 5:25. If there has been any sin in this area, confess it openly to God and, where needed, to your wife, for If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. Your love for God must be shown not only in words but in steadfast faithfulness, purity, and daily sacrificial love toward your wife.
We encourage you to continue to show that love in action, for Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud 1 Corinthians 13:4, and Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection Colossians 3:14. The Scripture instructs Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband Ephesians 5:33, and You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered 1 Peter 3:7. We encourage you to dwell with your wife with understanding, to be consistent, gentle, and kind, and to let her see through your patience and prayer that your love for God is genuine and your love for her is enduring. And we pray that she would be moved to respond with kindness and forgiveness, for And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32.
We pray together now. Father in heaven, we lift this husband and wife to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord, You see the hurt and distance that has come between them and the longing this husband has to be reconciled. We ask You to soften his wife’s heart and his own heart, to remove any stoniness, bitterness, or unbelief, and to pour out Your love and peace upon their home. Help this husband to love his wife as Christ loves the church, faithfully, purely, and sacrificially, and to walk in a way that clearly reflects his love for You. Help his wife to see and believe that love, to be kind and tenderhearted toward him, and to trust again. Heal any wounds from past unfaithfulness or unkindness, forgive all sin through the blood of Jesus, and restore what the enemy has tried to steal. Make their marriage strong, faithful, and honoring to You, a testimony of Your grace and covenant love. Give them both hearts to seek You first, to communicate with grace, and to never let go of what You have joined together. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to remain faithful in prayer, in the Word, and in loving deeds toward your wife without pressure or demands, trusting the Lord to work in His timing. Keep seeking Him together, and keep guarding your heart and eyes to be wholly devoted to your wife and to the Lord.
