Dear God please forgive me for my AUD that I had this weekend. Please help me to not be an alcoholic anymore. I do not like the way I feel after drinking alcohol. I believe that with your help I can let go of the alcohol trap and to not answer to the little Monster that tries to tell me that I can have a drink. No thanks . Please help me get my projects and proposals done correctly and on time this week at work. Please help me to be able to lay down next to my wife and to sleep with her and to take care of her. Please soften our hearts towards each other and please soften the hearts of my bosses and my coworkers and my customers. Please help me be a better person and a better man and a better husband and a better dad to our adult kid's and a better employee to help the company that I work for. Thank you Jesus Christ my lord and Savior. Amen

We join you in bringing this honest and humble confession before the Lord and we thank you for calling upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, for it is only through Him that we have forgiveness and access to the Father.

We hear the weight of what you are carrying, the regret after drinking this weekend and the desire to be free from the trap of alcohol. The Word tells us If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus Romans 8:1, but there is a call to turn away and walk in newness of life. Scripture warns us Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise Proverbs 20:1 and it commands us Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18. That little monster you describe is the voice of temptation, the flesh and the enemy trying to convince you that one drink is harmless, but God promises No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. We encourage you to make that way of escape practical, to remove alcohol from your home, to avoid places and habits that trigger the craving, to seek daily accountability with a trusted Christian brother or pastor, and to fill that space with the Spirit through prayer and the Word when the craving comes. Remember your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 and self-control is a fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 that grows as we abide in Christ. We believe with you that with His help you can walk in freedom, for If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17.

We also lift up your marriage and your work before the Lord. It is good and right that you desire to lay down next to your wife and to sleep with her and to take care of her, for marriage is honorable and the marriage bed is to be kept pure within that covenant Hebrews 13:4. We pray God will soften both of your hearts toward each other as He calls us to Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32. We pray He will give you and your wife unity, tenderness, and rest together. We also pray for your projects and proposals and for favor with your bosses, coworkers and customers. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men Colossians 3:23. God sees your desire to be a better man, a better husband, a better dad to your adult children and a better employee, and He will give you strength, for I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me Philippians 4:13. We ask Him to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you Psalm 51:10.

Father in Jesus name we come to You on behalf of our brother. We thank You for his repentant heart and his faith in Jesus Christ. We ask You to forgive him for the drunkenness of this weekend and to cleanse him from all unrighteousness. Lord break the chains of alcohol in his life. When the temptation whispers that he can have just one drink, help him to say no and to immediately turn to You and be filled with Your Holy Spirit. Give him strength to walk in sobriety one day at a time and surround him with godly counsel and accountability. Restore what alcohol has tried to steal from his body, his mind and his family. We pray You would soften his heart and his wife's heart toward each other, bring healing, affection and peaceful rest as they lie down together, and help him to love and cherish her as Christ loves the church. Bless his adult children and let him be an example of a godly father who walks in integrity. For his work this week, grant him clarity, diligence and wisdom to complete every project and proposal correctly and on time. Soften the hearts of his bosses, coworkers and customers toward him and let his work be a testimony to Your grace. Make him the man, husband, father and employee You have called him to be, for Your glory. We trust You to finish the good work You have begun in him. In the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We appreciate you sharing so openly with us. It takes courage to name the struggle with alcohol and to say plainly you don't like how it leaves you feeling and that you want to be free of it.

We also hear your heart for your wife, your adult kids and your work, wanting to be present, reliable and kind at home and on the job. Wanting to lay down beside your wife in peace and to show care to your bosses and coworkers reflects a good desire to love well.

Wanting to change while that pull still speaks up can feel like a tug of war. You are not alone in that, and reaching for help is a strength, not a failure. Alongside prayer, we encourage you to reach out soon to a trusted pastor, counselor or medical professional and to consider a steady support group in your area where others understand this struggle. Having one or two people you can be honest with week by week can make a real difference.

This week it may help to choose one small, doable step for work, like listing your proposals by due date and asking a coworker or supervisor for clarity where you need it, and one step at home, like telling your wife one honest way she can support you.

Father, we bring our brother before you in Jesus' name. Forgive and cleanse him, quiet the craving for alcohol and give him strength for each day and each decision. Soften hearts at home and at work, help him rest well beside his wife and guide his hands to do his work faithfully. Lead him to the help and community he needs. Amen.

Your honest confession before the Lord is itself a mark of His grace at work in you, and we join you in thanking Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for His mercy which is open to every repentant sinner who looks to Him.

You have prayed as our Lord taught us to pray, Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Temptation in itself is a thing very dangerous, and it is right for the Christian to pray just so. The word includes trial, for all temptation is trial from God, yet there is more in it, for the devil would use that trial to stain the garment and cause the foot to slip. Your prayer to be kept from answering that little monster when it whispers that you may have a drink is a wise and needful prayer. Take heed to the counsel that he who prays Lead us not into temptation and then goes into it speaks falsely before God. By the help of Divine Grace, never go into temptation. Turn from the place, the company, the hour, the habit that would lead you back to the trap. Flee it, and look to the Lord Jesus Christ for all things, for He is alive and He is our familiar Friend, and His strength is made perfect in weakness.

Remember Peter. He was not surprised without warning, for the Lord had said Watch and pray lest ye enter into temptation, and yet being carried away by sudden temptation he fell. But his story is rather his restoration than his fall. The Lord had prayed for him before the temptation came, for He foresaw all the danger, and He exercises His office as High Priest and Intercessor still. That same look of Christ which severed Peter from the crowd and brought him to bitter yet healing repentance is turned upon you now in mercy. Though you have fallen, you may be soon up again. That look does not condemn to destroy, but to restore, and till He gives abundant assurance of forgiveness you may trust His blood and His intercession. A man never gets anything out of the devil, even if he conquers him, but he gets everything from Christ when he is conquered by Christ and then restored.

You ask to lay down beside your wife and to sleep with her and to take care of her, and to have your hearts softened toward each other. This is good and right, for marriage is not a mere convenience but a covenant wherein husband and wife become one, cemented by mutual love and by choice on both sides. When God says I am married unto you, He shows what true marriage should reflect, two becoming one flesh under His holy ordinance of one man and one woman for life. To cherish your wife, to keep the marriage bed in purity, to dwell with her with tenderness and fidelity, is to honor Christ Himself. Pray on for that softening, for the Lord who can soften the heart of a spouse can soften also the hearts of bosses and coworkers and customers. He puts men in positions of Providence to try them, and He can give you favor and patience in those trials.

You desire also to be a better man, a better husband, a better father to your adult children, and a better employee to help the company where you labor. This is the fruit which restoration bears. The child of God under temptation, behaving himself grandly by grace, becomes a standing example to those around him. As you are restored, you will strengthen your brethren, beginning in your own household and in your workplace, by aiming at diligence, truthfulness and steadiness. Go to your projects and proposals each day as unto the Lord, praying for wisdom to do them correctly and on time, and He will establish the work of your hands.

O Lord our God, forgive this our brother through the blood of the Lamb who proved His love upon the cross, and cleanse him from all sin. Lead him not into temptation, spare him from too great trials lest they overcome his patience and faith, and deliver him from the evil one who would ensnare him again with strong drink. Withdraw not Thy grace but pour it out abundantly, that he may hate the temptation and stand fast at the end of the day. Look upon him as Thou didst look upon Peter, and restore him to joy and usefulness. Soften his heart and the heart of his wife toward each other, knit them together in holy love, and soften the hearts of those over him and beside him in his labor. Make him steadfast, sober, tender and diligent, to the praise of Thy Son, in whose name we ask it. Amen.

Your honest confession before God is heard, and I thank Him that you have brought this struggle into the light. You have named what weighs on you, your drinking this past weekend, the way alcohol leaves you feeling, and the desire to be free from its trap, and you have also named your longing to be faithful in your work and in your home. That honesty is itself a step toward healing.

Scripture teaches that blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. Forgiveness does not come because we earn it, but by grace through Jesus Christ alone, who died and rose so that every trespass confessed to Him is washed away. When you turn to Him in repentance, you can be confident that He forgives and that He also trains us to live with a gentle and renewed heart. Receive that forgiveness and do not remain in shame, but walk forward in the grace He gives.

You spoke of the little voice that tells you that you can have a drink. The teaching of the Church has long said it is not wine itself that causes drunkenness, but the misuse of it beyond due measure and the purpose of the heart that turns to excess. For the one who finds himself caught, the path of holiness is to turn decisively away from that excess and to pursue self control. With God’s help you can let go of that trap. This will mean practical steps as well as prayer, bringing others into your struggle, a trusted pastor, a mature brother in Christ, and where needed medical or counseling help for alcohol use, so you are not fighting alone, and seeking daily habits of prayer, Scripture, and honest accountability when temptation comes.

Your desire to lay down beside your wife, to sleep with her in faithfulness and to care for her, is good and right. Marriage is a bond ordained by God and Scripture says marriage is honorable. Holiness in marriage is shown in chaste and orderly living, in remaining faithful to your own wife and not allowing anything to defile that union. God does not see marriage as a hindrance but as a calling where love, patience, and purity can grow. I will pray that God softens your heart and your wife’s heart toward each other, that you may grow in kindness, forgiveness, and tender care, and that your home would be marked by peace and faithfulness.

I also hear your prayer for your work, for your projects and proposals to be done correctly and on time, and for favor with your bosses, coworkers, and customers. God calls us to do our work with diligence and integrity as service to Him. I will pray that He gives you clarity of mind, strength to steward your time well, and grace in the eyes of those you serve, and that you may grow as a better man, a better husband, a better father to your adult children, and a better employee, not by your own strength alone but by His grace working in you.

Let us pray together. Lord Jesus Christ, thank You that You are our Savior and that forgiveness is found in You alone. Forgive this brother for his sins and cover him with Your mercy.
