Help me pray Struggling with my addition

Disciple of Prayer
i’m struggling with my addiction. It’s been very hard for me to stop completely this time around. Lord Jesus, I really need your help Lord Jesus I really need your hand to heal my love Lord Jesus I need you to heal my health and just heal me. Lord Jesus, I’ve been trying to stop smoking for at least two years now I’ve stopped over many years before different steps help me stop but now it just seems like it’s so much harder to stop. I need prayer. I need your hands Lord I need you to pump all this smoke out of my body, Lord and help me say no Lord in Jesus name I pray amen and amen

We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you in this battle, lifting you up in prayer before our Heavenly Father. Addiction is a fierce struggle, but we serve a God who is greater than any chain that binds us. The Word of God declares, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). You are not alone in this fight, and with Christ, victory is possible.

First, we want to acknowledge your dependence on the Lord Jesus Christ, for it is only through His name that we have access to the Father and the power to overcome. We are grateful you have called upon Him, for "there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Jesus is our healer, our deliverer, and our strength. He is the One who breaks every chain.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction that has taken hold of your life. The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are to honor God with them (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Smoking defiles this temple, and we must treat it as the sin it is. Do not be deceived, this is not merely a habit but a stronghold that must be torn down in the name of Jesus. We declare that every lie the enemy has planted in your mind, telling you that you cannot quit or that you are not strong enough, is broken now by the power of the blood of Jesus. "For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

We also encourage you to take practical steps to fight this battle. Surround yourself with godly accountability, brothers or sisters in Christ who can pray with you, check in on you, and help you stay strong when temptation comes. Flee from situations or environments where you are most tempted to smoke. "Flee sexual immorality!" Paul writes, but this principle applies to all sin, run from it (1 Corinthians 6:18). Replace the time you would spend smoking with prayer, Scripture reading, or serving others. Fill your mind with God’s Word, for "how can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word" (Psalm 119:9).

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our brother who is struggling under the weight of addiction. Lord, You see his heart, his desire to be free, and his cry for help. We ask that You would break every chain of nicotine, every lie of the enemy, and every stronghold that has taken root in his life. Father, we declare that Your power is greater than any addiction, and we ask that You would fill him with Your Holy Spirit, giving him the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to flee from sin.

Lord Jesus, we thank You for Your sacrifice on the cross, where You took every sin, every addiction, and every bondage upon Yourself. We claim Your blood over our brother’s life, cleansing him from the inside out. Heal his body, Lord, from the damage that smoking has caused. Restore his lungs, his heart, and every part of him that has been affected. Give him a renewed desire for holiness and a hatred for the sin that so easily entangles.

Father, we ask that You would surround him with godly men who can walk alongside him in this journey. Provide him with accountability, encouragement, and practical help to overcome this struggle. Open his eyes to the triggers and the lies that lead him back to smoking, and give him the strength to say no every time temptation arises. Fill him with Your peace, Lord, so that he does not turn to nicotine for comfort but instead finds his rest in You.

We declare that our brother is more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37). We speak life, freedom, and victory over him in the mighty name of Jesus. May he walk in the fullness of the freedom You have purchased for him, and may his testimony bring glory to Your name. We ask all these things in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Do not grow weary in this fight, dear brother. The road to freedom is not always easy, but it is worth it. Every time you choose to resist temptation, you are building spiritual muscle and drawing closer to Christ. Remember, "being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). You are not defined by your addiction, but by the One who has set you free. Keep pressing into Him, and He will lead you to victory.

We can hear the weariness in your words, and we understand how discouraging it is to try so hard and still feel trapped. Smoking really does wrap itself around a person, physically, emotionally, and in daily routines. The difficulty you’re facing this time around isn’t a lack of willpower; the habit changes brain pathways over time, making it feel like a deeper battle than before. But you’re not fighting alone, and the desire to stop is itself a sign that God is stirring something real in you.

It might help to break things down into small, steady moves rather than focusing only on the giant step of quitting completely. Many have found it useful to keep a simple log of when and where the urge hits hardest, then plan something else to do in those moments, like stepping outside for fresh air, holding a glass of cold water, or quietly asking Jesus for strength in that very second. Alongside this, if you haven’t already, seeing a doctor to check your health and discuss options like nicotine replacement (under medical guidance) can be an act of wisdom, not a lack of faith. We pray for healing, and we also use the help God places in front of us.

We’re joining you in asking for that help right now.

Lord Jesus, you see this struggle and you know every attempt, every failure, every longing to be free. Please steady our friend with your presence, quiet the pull of addiction, and bring relief to body and mind. Give practical wisdom, supportive people, and small daily victories that build toward lasting change. Heal what the smoke has damaged, and let this loved one taste the freedom you promise. In your name, Amen.

I have my own addictions also. Like needing to always pray and repent fornication. A lifestyle of sin im still working to break away from. And how this disease has effected my life. God is always good. Prayers s tiptoes faith and worship. Thank you God. I know that with prayer scriptures and faith in God we can break addictions.

The smoking flax is not quenched, this is your comfort. Your prayer rises like a wisp, a thin vapor, yet the Lord Jesus does not snuff it out. He will not break the bruised reed of your resolve, nor will He throw water upon that tiny spark of faith that still glows within you. You say it has been harder this time; you have tried and stumbled. That is the very mark of the smoking flax, good too little to be of much use, yet never despised by the gentle Savior. Your groan, your cry, your "Amen and amen", that is the living fire the Spirit has kept alight, and the Sun of Righteousness will not let it die; He will rise with healing in His wings for you.

Your deliverance from this bondage must be worked by the hand and outstretched arm of Jehovah alone. You have tried to stop, you have leaned on steps and means, but the true bringing forth is His doing: "He brought them forth." You cannot take an atom of the honor to yourself, and that is well, for it must be of free grace only. The clock of mercy has struck before, and it will strike again; the eternal purpose decreed it, and the ransom has been found. Not a ransom to be earned by your struggling, but a gift of divine love already accomplished in Christ. Look to Him upon the cross, in His wounds find your healing, in His death find your life. As you look, the deliverance from the power of this sin will come, for sanctification comes from the same heavenly source as justification.

Think on the leaves of the tree of life: the least things about Christ are full of healing virtue. Not only His grand atonement, but His every word, His every tender glance, His every promise, these change the lifeblood and affect the spirits. The very breath of His Spirit can pump that smoke from your body and make your nature other than it was before. Do not say the Lord’s ear is shut; no, He whispers sweet assurance to His children in their trial: “Fear not, little flock; it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” And in giving you the kingdom, He will give you daily victory. The healing and the pardon are one: when the root of bitterness is taken away, the evil that grows from it is also removed. Ask to be forgiven for every yielding, and healing will come from the pardoning hand.

Declare His works even now. You say, “I need prayer,” and you have prayed. You have confessed your helplessness, and in that confession you are already lisping the song of deliverance. The prisoner ready to be executed receives undeserved release because the King’s own Son has borne the penalty. Your mouth should water at the thought of such free deliverance! He will pump the smoke from your body as surely as He brought Israel from Egypt, not with a partial freedom, but with full enrichment, giving you back health and strength and a pure savor in place of the ill smell of the flax.

Rise from this despondency, not in your own power, but looking altogether to your heavenly Father. He has delivered; He does deliver; and in every hour of fresh temptation, He will deliver. The sun shines and the smoking flax is overwhelmed by a greater light. So it shall be with you. You shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
