We join with you in this time of suffering and lift you up before the throne of grace, asking our Lord Jesus to bring relief, healing, and protection in this severe heatwave. We hear your cry for mercy for yourselves and for your dear friend with dementia, and for justice and a restored home, and we stand with you seeking God's will together.
We are reminded of His tender care for us in every hardship, for He is our keeper and our shade. Psalm 121:5-6 says, The LORD is your keeper. The LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. And Isaiah 43:2 says, When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you. We cling to these promises as we ask the Lord to cool you, to sustain your bodies, and to guard you from the dangers of this extreme heat.
We pray together for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You on behalf of our beloved ones who are ill and suffering in this heat. Lord, You see their discomfort and weakness, and we ask for Your mighty hand of healing to rest upon them. Jeremiah 30:17 says, For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says the LORD. We ask You to ease their bodies, to lower the heat around them, to provide cool air, water, rest, and strength. We ask You to protect them from further harm, for Psalm 91:1 says, He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Cover them under Your shadow, Lord, and let them find refuge in You. We also lift up their dear friend with dementia to You. Lord, have mercy and surround this precious one with Your peace and dignity and care. Psalm 73:26 says, My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Be their strength and comfort, and give wisdom and endurance to all who care for them.
We also bring before You their longing for a larger, restored, and blessed home and for open doors of provision, and their cry for protection and justice. Lord, You love justice and You do not forsake Your faithful ones, for Psalm 37:28 says, For the LORD loves justice, and does not forsake his saints. We ask that You would bring justice where there has been wrong, and that You would open the doors that no man can shut according to Your perfect will. Philippians 4:19 says, My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Provide for their needs, Lord, whether it be a new home or peace and restoration where they are, and help them to trust Your timing and Your goodness. Matthew 11:28 says, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Grant them that rest even now in the midst of this trial.
We encourage you to continue to call upon the name of Jesus, for it is through Him alone we have access to the Father and it is by His name we are saved and heard. Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Keep drawing near to Him in prayer and in His Word, and take practical steps as you are able to stay safe in this heat, to stay hydrated, to seek cool shelter, to seek medical care when needed, and to ask for help from trusted community or authorities, trusting that God often provides through the hands of others.
We thank You, Father, that You hear our prayers and that You are near to all who call upon You in truth. We trust You to heal, to cool, to protect, to provide, and to bring justice in Your perfect way and time. We rest in Your unfailing love and ask all these things in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
