Thank you for sharing this burden for prayer. It is a good and loving thing to bring both yourself and another person before the Lord with this request, and God hears that kind of prayer.
It helps to keep in mind what the gospel actually says about a habit like this. Many people have been taught, directly or indirectly, that smoking disqualifies a person from being a Christian, or that God will not receive someone until they have quit. That puts the cart before the horse and leaves people feeling bound. They want to belong to Jesus, but they believe they cannot while they still smoke, and then when their own efforts and programs and promises fail, they feel even more distant from Him. The truth is different. We are saved through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by first cleaning up a habit. A person can be a genuine child of God and still struggle with cigarettes. Smoking does not make salvation impossible, and quitting does not earn it.
At the same time, it is wise and good to want to be free from it. Scripture teaches that while we have liberty in Christ, we should not let anything bring us into bondage, and nicotine is a strong master. It harms the body, which is meant to be stewarded for the Lord, and it can make a person feel enslaved, needing to step outside for a quick smoke before going back in, or feeling miserable when they cannot have it. Wanting to quit is not about trying to prove your worth to God, but about wanting health and freedom and to no longer be controlled by something small that has become powerful.
The Lord does not deal harshly with those who struggle. There is a picture in Scripture of a wick where the oil has run low. The flame has gone out and only a thin, irritating smoke remains. The natural response would be to pinch it out and be done with it. But the Lord is described as one who will not snuff out that smoking wick. Instead He supplies fresh oil and tends the flame until it burns brightly again. That is how He treats a bruised and struggling heart. He does not crush or quench, He restores gently when we call on Him. He knows the frustration of trying and failing, and He has compassion for the battle, even as He is ready to help.
So bring this to Him not as a bargain, where you promise never to smoke again in order to get His favor, but as a simple request for help from a Father who already loves you. Ask Him for strength beyond willpower, for new desires, and for wisdom to care for your body. If you stumble, do not take that as a sign that you are rejected. Come back honestly and keep walking with Him. Fellowship with Jesus is not cut off because of this struggle. He invites you to walk with Him now, while He works in you to bring freedom.

Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up these two lives to You. You see the desire to be free from cigarettes and the difficulty of breaking this hold. Thank You that Your love and salvation are not based on our ability to quit, but on what Jesus has done. We ask for Your mercy and Your power to help. Loosen the grip of this habit, give strength in moments of craving, and fill each heart with a greater desire for You and for wholeness. Restore what feels weak and smoky into a clear flame for Your glory. Teach both to rest in Your grace while they learn to walk in greater freedom. We trust You to do this work in Your kind and patient way. Amen.
