I am standing with you in prayer for everyone bearing up under this oppressive heat. It is good to cry out to Jesus for safety, because real protection never rests in our own hands. We can prepare as best we can, stock water and seek shade, but Scripture reminds us that unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake for nothing. A horse is readied for battle, yet deliverance belongs to the Lord alone. So in this heat wave, we ask Him to be our shade and shield.
That does not mean we become passive or foolish. There is wisdom in a multitude of counselors, so check on your neighbors, listen to the elderly and the frail, and let the church family share one another’s burdens. When the temperature soars and a sudden storm might follow, we don’t need false reassurances that ignore the danger. But we also refuse to live in panic. Extremes miss the center of truth. Yes, God is sovereign over the weather, and yes, He gives us the good sense to act prudently. Trust Him, and also fill the water bottle.
Be gentle with those who are suffering. Proverbs says a cheerful song to a heavy heart is like vinegar on niter, an irritation. Some can’t escape the heat, and they don’t need empty words. They need our practical love and the reminder that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted. So as you pray, pray also for eyes to see where you can bring relief. Do not fret over what the wicked may scheme or the discomforts that come; the Father knows our frame. He may, in His compassion, break the heat’s intensity and give a season of cool refreshment. In the meantime, we rest in Jesus, our sure refuge.
