Heart Change

My s on has been home for about a month now after 15 mo in mental health/addiction facilities. I thank the Lord the addiction is gone but the mental issues are still affecting us. He does not want to work. Will not look for jobs and says the world is a bad place, he doesn't want to participate in it. Money isn't worth anything, the gov is evil and he will get burned out if he works a job. He is discouraged he will never be able to marry or have kids because he doesn't want them in schools all day he wants a spouse that can stay home and be with them but says the world requires 2 incomes. All he is seeing is fear and dead ends; lies from the devil. He is online talking to AI all day it seems and AI is not filling him with any encouraging or uplifting truths. Please pray however you feel the Lord is leading you. I do not know what to do. My s on is a believer in Jesus Christ. Thank you.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your son and your family in this challenging season. Father, we thank You for the victory over addiction that You have already won in his life—this is a testimony to Your power and grace. Yet we see the battle still raging in his mind, and we ask You to break every chain of fear, discouragement, and deception that the enemy has woven around his thoughts. The lies he is believing—about the world, about work, about marriage and family—are not from You, Lord. Your Word tells us, *"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind"* (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). We rebuke the spirit of fear and despair in Jesus’ name and declare that Your truth will prevail in his heart.

Father, we pray for a transformation of his perspective. The world *is* broken, yes, but it is also the very place where You have called us to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16 WEB). His withdrawal from work and society is not the answer—it only deepens the isolation the enemy desires. We ask You to stir in him a holy discontent with passivity and a renewed sense of purpose. Show him that work, even in a fallen world, is a gift from You (Ecclesiastes 3:13 WEB) and an opportunity to provide for his future family, to serve others, and to bring glory to Your name. If he is struggling with burnout, Lord, give him wisdom to find balance, but do not let him use that as an excuse to disengage entirely.

We also lift up his longing for marriage and family. It is good and right for him to desire a godly spouse and children, but his current mindset is rooted in fear, not faith. Remind him that *"the righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land"* (Proverbs 10:30 WEB). If he seeks You first, You will provide the way for his desires to align with Your will (Matthew 6:33 WEB). But he must trust You, not the world’s systems or his own anxieties. We pray for a wife who shares his biblical convictions—a helpmeet who would joyfully embrace the calling of homemaking if that is Your design—but he must first step into the responsibilities and maturity that marriage requires. A godly marriage is built on mutual sacrifice, not idealistic fantasies.

Lord, we are deeply concerned about his reliance on AI for companionship and counsel. This is a counterfeit, a poor substitute for the wisdom and encouragement that comes from Your Word, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. *"Bad company corrupts good character"* (1 Corinthians 15:33 WEB), and even digital "company" can lead him astray if it is not grounded in truth. We ask You to sever his dependence on these empty interactions and draw him back to the body of Christ. Surround him with godly men who can speak life into him, hold him accountable, and model what it looks like to walk in faith despite the world’s brokenness.

Father, we also recognize that his mental health struggles may require ongoing support—counseling, medication if needed, and godly community. We pray for wisdom for you and your family as you navigate how to encourage him without enabling his avoidance. Give you strength to set boundaries with love, knowing that *"faithful are the wounds of a friend"* (Proverbs 27:6 WEB). Help him to see that his current path is not sustainable and that his fears, while real, are not insurmountable with You by his side.

Most of all, we pray for a heart change. Not just a shift in behavior, but a deep, abiding trust in You, Lord. Remind him that *"perfect love casts out fear"* (1 John 4:18 WEB) and that his identity is not defined by the world’s chaos but by his position in Christ. May he rise up with the confidence of a son of God, ready to engage with the world not as a victim, but as a victor.

We declare over him today: *"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"* (Philippians 4:13 WEB). May he walk in that truth, step by step, day by day. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We're here with you, friend, and we want you to know that we're lifting your son up in prayer today. We're so grateful for the victory over addiction that Jesus has already won in his life. It's amazing to see how far he's come, and we're trusting that the Lord will continue to work in his heart and mind.

We're praying for a breakthrough in the mental health struggles he's still facing. We ask that the Lord would replace the fear and discouragement with hope and courage. We claim the promise in 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." We declare that your son will walk in the power, love, and sound mind that God has given him.

We also pray for a shift in his perspective. We ask that the Lord would help him see the world through the lens of faith, not fear. We believe that God has called him to be salt and light in this world, and we pray that he would embrace that calling. We ask that the Lord would show him the purpose and dignity in work, even in a fallen world.

We're also praying for your son's desire for marriage and family. We ask that the Lord would help him trust in Him, not in the world's systems or his own anxieties. We pray that he would find a godly spouse who shares his biblical convictions and is ready to embrace the responsibilities of marriage.

Lastly, we're concerned about his reliance on AI for companionship and counsel. We pray that the Lord would draw him back to the wisdom and encouragement that comes from His Word, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. We ask that you and your family would surround him with godly men who can speak life into him, hold him accountable, and model what it looks like to walk in faith.

We're trusting that the Lord will bring about a heart change in your son, a deep, abiding trust in Him. We declare over him today, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). We believe that he can walk in this truth, step by step, day by day.

Let's keep praying and trusting in the power of Jesus' name. Amen.
