Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The affliction you bear cries out, and I have often said that there is nothing so impenetrable as long-suffering. A spark falling into the deep is quenched; so also a soul anchored in patience is not disturbed by any unexpected thing. This noise that torments you, do not let it provoke your spirit. For love “is not easily provoked,” and I would see that love ruling your inner man, not suffering the thorns of wrath or despair to spring up.

Yet I must also speak of a deeper hearing. We pray always that God would open the ears of our hearts, for they are so often shut and stopped up. Your physical ears are assailed, but what of the inward ear? Do you hear His word with such heed as if God Himself were exhorting you? Many who heard ten times and seemed insensible afterwards brought forth abundant fruit by one hearing. Do not despair, then, that your cries seem unanswered. He who delivered us from death, in whom we trust, works in the enduring of the same sufferings. Your very endurance, united with prayer, becomes a means of grace.

I would not have you cast this petition as an unlawful prayer, complaining against God’s permission. For it is written, “One man keepeth anger against another, and doth he seek healing of God?” Even under the old covenant, long-nurtured anger brought death. So cast away any inner resentment against this trial. Instead, cry out as those blind men did, alleging nothing but “mercy.” Your loud cries in the night, uttered with faith, are known to Him.

The catechumens pray not to remain catechumens. So you, in this affliction, pray not merely for silence in the ear but for stillness in the soul, that your hearing be restored or sanctified to draw you nearer to Him. For what shall we be profited if we hear sermons daily yet go home bearing nothing, wondering only? God forbid that your suffering should be without fruit.

Let this be your prayer: “Lord, Thou who didst open the ears of the deaf and even now dost open the ears of hearts, look upon my distress. I do not seek healing in anger, but I cast myself on Thy mercy. Grant me long-suffering, that this spark may be quenched and not consume me. Whether by cure or by grace to endure, let me not be put to shame, but let my help come from Thee. Deliver me from this unbearable noise, if it be Thy will, and give me the quiet that the world cannot give.”

He who allowed the thorn in the flesh knows how to make strength perfect in weakness. Together with the whole Church, we also help by prayer, entreating the Lord for you. Fight not against the affliction with inward turmoil; let love, that excellent husbandman, weed out all clamor of the soul. And may the God of all consolation, who once said “Ephphatha” to deaf ears, visit you with peace.

The piercing, unrelenting noise of tinnitus can make minutes feel like hours, and I am truly sorry you are enduring this right now. When a persistent affliction wraps itself around your consciousness, it is easy to feel trapped in a moment that seems like it will never end. The weight of it is real, and the exhaustion it brings is not something you need to minimize or pretend away. There is a strange and difficult truth found in the crucible of this kind of suffering. It has a way of deepening the roots of your spirit in a manner that comfort never could. Character and a quiet, hard-won strength are often forged in the very fires we would most desperately wish to escape.

When the Apostle Paul looked at the traumas he endured, he began to call them a "light affliction." That does not mean his pain was trivial; it means he was learning to compare it by a different standard. He placed the present agony on one side of the scale and the coming eternal weight of glory on the other, and the scale tipped decisively. Right now, the screeching in your ears feels like an eternity, yet it is contained within this fleeting life. What we desperately need in the long, dragging hours is grace to fix our eyes not on what is seen and heard, but on what is unseen and eternal. For the believer, this present struggle is actively working for us a glory that will far outlast and outweigh it.

I also want to speak directly about healing, because Scripture presents a rich and complex picture. I believe profoundly in God’s power to heal. We see Jesus healing every kind of sickness, sometimes with a touch, sometimes with a word spoken from a distance, and sometimes through a gradual process. The power itself is not the question; he is the same Lord who commanded the winds and cast out demons. We can and should bring this request before him boldly, just as Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh. Yet we must also hold this truth gently: the Holy Spirit distributes his gifts according to his own sovereign will, and the Scriptures do not command us to presume that physical healing is his will in every single case. Sometimes his perfect answer is not the removal of the thorn, but the infusion of sufficient grace to endure it.

That does not make the process easy to understand. I admit there is much about healing that remains a mystery to me. I do not know why some are delivered instantly while others are called to walk a longer road of endurance. But I do see that God uses these very paths to teach us obedience and hope in ways we could learn through no other means. Sometimes the divine healing is not merely in the silencing of the nerve, but in the quieting of the soul. He can heal the anxiety and the emotional scarring that comes from living with a noise you cannot control. Even the gradual processes woven into creation are his work, and we pray for him to guide every medical and natural means that might bring relief. We ask for the full work of his mercy: for a miracle, for wisdom for doctors, and for a supernatural peace that acts as a healing balm to your mind right now.

As we pray for your hearing, let us also ask for the most excellent way. Even more vital than the gift of healing is the deepening of that divine love in your heart. This love is long-suffering and kind. Jesus himself, on the night he was to be handed over to suffering, took bread and declared his body broken for us. In that act, he encompassed all our brokenness, our physical and spiritual sicknesses alike. He is not distant from your pain; he entered into it fully.

So I will pray for the noise to cease and for your body to be restored. But just as earnestly, I will ask the Lord to fill you with his presence right in the middle of the unbearable moments, to make the roots of your faith go deep, and to give you a tangible sense that his grace is sufficient. The suffering is real, but it is not worthy to be compared with what he is preparing for you. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and do not hesitate to reach out again.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for your hearing condition. It has been on our hearts to lift you up before the Lord, asking Him to bring relief from the tinnitus that has been so unbearable. We have prayed for healing, comfort, and peace to surround you, trusting that God hears our cries and sees your struggle.

If the Lord has answered our prayers and brought you relief, we would be so grateful to hear a praise report—your testimony could be an encouragement to others walking a similar path. If, however, the burden still feels heavy and the tinnitus remains unrelenting, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue interceding on your behalf, believing that God is able to bring breakthrough even in the most persistent of circumstances.

May the Lord bless you with His presence and grace as you seek Him. May He quiet the noise in your ears and fill your heart with His peace that surpasses all understanding. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus.
