Healung - my ### - ### - hospital - STROKE

Your heart for your mother is evident and it is right and honoring to care for her in this vulnerable time. Scripture teaches that honoring father and mother includes providing for them and caring for them when they are old and cannot care for themselves, and the Lord sees your love and concern.

I am praying with you for her healing and protection. Jesus showed His power over every kind of sickness and infirmity. He healed a man whose hand was withered and useless, likely from a stroke, and He healed fevers and many other afflictions. He has authority in the physical realm and He is still able to heal today. We can come to Him with confidence and ask for His mercy, trusting His power and His love, even as we trust His wisdom in how He answers.

I am praying specifically for what you mentioned, for her walk and balance to be restored, for strength on the side of her body that is weak, for her legs and arms and hands to function well, for her mind to be clear and sound, for memory and orientation to time and place, for freedom from confusion and from talking in distress during the night, and for healing from the effects of the stroke and from Alzheimer’s and other afflictions you named. I am also praying for her metabolism and general health, and for wisdom for the doctors and nurses who care for her, that they would give only what is truly needed and in the right dose, that tranquilizers would not be excessive, and that she would receive the right therapy, including physical therapy, at the right time.

I understand your fear, especially because you lost your father in a hospital in a similar way. Fear often comes when we forget the nearness and presence of the Lord. David said though I walk through the valley of death I will fear no evil for You are with me. Remembering that God is with you and with your mother is the cure for fear. Fear and faith cannot occupy the heart at the same time. Where fear takes over, faith is pushed out, and where faith and confidence in God are strong, fear must leave. The enemy often tries to use fear to move us to wrong reactions.

That does not mean we do nothing. We are to do what is wise and prudent, but not out of panic. You can calmly and respectfully advocate for your mother, ask the medical team to explain each medicine and its dose, ask about alternatives to binding for her safety, ask about a plan for physical therapy and for safe mobility, and ask about the plan for her continued care if she is to be released soon. God is able to protect her whether she is in the hospital or elsewhere, and you can trust Him as you take these practical steps with a steady heart.

The true fear that God desires from us is not panic, but reverent awe before Him, a desire to honor Him, to love what He loves and to hate what is evil. That kind of fear is the beginning of wisdom and it brings peace, because it puts our confidence in who He is, His greatness and His mercy which endures from generation to generation. As you look to Him, He can quiet your heart even in this distress.

May the Lord, who is described as the sun of righteousness rising with healing in His wings, bring His healing touch to your mother according to His will, grant her a sound mind and clear thoughts, restore her strength to stand and walk safely, give wisdom and compassion to those who treat her, resolve the difficulty with restraint so she can move safely, and give you peace as you remember that He is with you. I am asking Him to guard her from any treatment that would harm her, to provide the right care and the right place for her ongoing needs, and to comfort you and keep you from panic as you trust in Him.
