Beloved of All
Watching your mother struggle with vomiting and loss of appetite is heavy on the heart, and your care for her is itself a beautiful honoring of her as your mother. Scripture puts a high value on caring for parents, especially when they are older and unable to care for themselves, and bringing her need to the Lord in prayer is part of that love.
Jesus showed again and again that He cares about sickness and about mothers. He lifted Peter's mother in law when she lay sick with a fever, He cleansed the leper, He healed at a distance for the centurion's servant, and when crowds came in the evening He healed many who were sick and oppressed. Matthew connects this to what Isaiah prophesied, that He bore our sicknesses and carried our infirmities. That tells us healing is not outside His nature or His power. He has authority in the physical realm and in the spiritual realm, and He still has that authority today.
At the same time the Gospels show that Jesus did not heal in only one way. Sometimes He touched, sometimes He only spoke a word, sometimes people were healed instantly and sometimes healing came gradually. There is only one account where the healing came in stages, which reminds us He is not bound to a pattern. Any true healing is from Him, and that includes the ordinary healing processes He has built into our bodies. What doctors call natural recovery is still divine, because He created those processes. So it is right to pray with faith and also to seek good medical care, asking God to work through both.
There is a lot about healing we do not fully understand, and it would not be honest to pretend we can explain why some are restored quickly and others more slowly. What we can do is come to Jesus with persistent faith. One mother in the Gospels came desperate for her daughter who was tormented, and she would not stop until she received help from Him, and her faith was honored. Others pressed through the crowd just to touch the edge of His garment, using that touch as a point to release their faith. You can come that way for your mother, quietly and steadily, not needing noise or frenzy, simply trusting that He is able and that He hears. Keep coming to Him and do not go away without bringing her need to Him.
There is also a tender connection between the soul and the body. John in his letter to his beloved friend expressed the wish that he would prosper and be in health even as his soul prospers. That was a personal greeting, not a formula to claim, but it does reflect God's caring heart for our health and it reminds us that peace, hope, and trust can affect the body. Attitudes and inner calm can even change body chemistry. Praying for your mother's peace, for rest, for freedom from fear, is part of praying for her physical healing.
We will pray for her now, and continue to pray with you.
Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear mother before You. You see her weakness, the vomiting, the lack of desire to eat, and the weariness it brings. Lay Your hand upon her in mercy. Calm her stomach, restore her appetite, strengthen her body, and give her nourishment and rest. Guide those who care for her medically and give wisdom about what will help her. Fill her heart and her family with Your peace as they trust You, and let her feel Your presence and love. We ask for Your healing power to work, whether quickly or step by step, according to Your perfect wisdom, and we thank You that You bear our infirmities and care for us. Amen.
Keep trusting Him, keep caring for her with gentleness, and keep bringing her needs to Him each day.
