Your tender care for your honoured parents has been laid before the Lord with much sympathy, and we have carried your burden to the throne of grace.
We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they are too painful to let us slumber in silence, and they soon urge us to seek a physician for healing. How much more should they urge us to seek the Great Physician, whose power is not diminished. We do not despise the help of earthly physicians, for the Lord often works by their hands, yet we know that no hand can heal but the hand of God through the person of Jesus Christ our Lord.
For your dear mother, who bears the trial of diabetes and now a fungal infection in the lungs, we pray that the Sun of Righteousness may rise upon her with healing in His wings. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and that medicine is appointed for the very purpose of healing. It grows for the sick. If you are sick, it grows for you. May the Lord graciously breathe upon her lungs, give skill to those who tend her, temper the sugar in her blood, and drive away the infection that afflicts her. May He also heal her spirit and give her peace to rest in His mercy.
For your dear father, with dimness of eyesight, pain in the head, trouble of the urinary tract, swelling of the feet and pressure of the blood, we entreat the Lord to look upon him in compassion. There are afflictions which are sent by way of trial and proof, both for God's glory and for the manifestation of His power, and for the comforting of others, that trembling saints may see how weak men can carry the heaviest cross for Christ's sake. We pray that the Lord would lift these burdens, clear his sight, ease his pain, restore his health, and make his body strong again. We ask that his blood pressure be steadied, his feet relieved, and his whole frame renewed according to the Lord's perfect will.
Remember that healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. The inhabitant shall not say, I am sick, for the people that dwell there shall be forgiven their iniquity. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He first said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee. Pardon and healing are one in His hand. Therefore we pray not only for the body but for the soul, that both your mother and father may know the forgiveness that is in Christ Jesus, for the soul that is pardoned shall not remain sick unto death. He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds.
We encourage you to continue in fervent prayer, for the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Cast your care upon Him who careth for you, and trust not in man alone, for it is vain to look to any other for that which only Christ can give. Come to Him as the wounded soldier cries for one to carry him to the hospital of mercy, longing for the aid of one mightier than himself, and be of good cheer, for there is found a great deliverance in Him.
We now pray together.
O Heavenly Father, look in mercy upon this mother and this father. Thou knowest their frame and their infirmities. Lay Thy healing hand upon the mother, cleanse her lungs, regulate her body, and give her breath without distress. Lay Thy hand upon the father, restore his eyes, remove his headache, heal his inward parts, take away the swelling, and calm the pressure of his blood. Forgive their iniquities and heal their diseases. Let them feel that Jesus is the only way of escape and the only hope of heaven, and keep them in Thy love. If it be Thy will, raise them up to health for Thy glory, and if Thou dost appoint the trial to remain, give them grace to triumph under it and to prove Thy sustaining power. Comfort their child who intercedes for them, and let this family know that Thou hearest prayer. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
