Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer request shows a heart that longs to honor those who came before you and to see God’s healing and renewal in every part of your life, body, soul, and spirit. That longing is not misplaced; the Lord Himself has called us to honor our father and mother, and He attaches a promise that it will go well with us and we will live long in the land. Yet you likely also know the pain that can flow from imperfect parents, because what they do often leaves a marked effect on their children. It is tragically true that the sins of parents can be visited upon their children, leaving wounds that people carry into adulthood, emotional scars, broken patterns of thinking, even years of childhood blocked from memory because the relationship was so off the wall. Many struggle today because their parents were profoundly messed up. You may feel that weight even as you pray for them.
But thank God there is always a way out. The command to honor does not mean you must pretend evil was good or submit to demands that are ungodly. Scripture qualifies it: obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. When a parent asks something contrary to God’s nature, honoring them may mean refusing with a respectful heart and entrusting the whole situation to the One who heals. Jesus does not confine His healing to a single pattern. Sometimes He touched; sometimes He spoke a word from a distance. Some were healed instantly; others experienced a gradual restoration. And we must be just as open to the quiet, divine processes He has built into our bodies and minds as we are to the miraculous moment when we feel virtue flowing and know we are made whole.
There is much about healing I do not fully understand. I cannot tell you why some are delivered at once and others must walk a slower path. But I know this: any true healing, whether of the body, the emotions, or the tangled memories, is divine. God is delivering you from evil works and preserving you for His heavenly kingdom, and He does not always choose to do it by simply removing the thorn. Sometimes He delivers by renewing the mind, scrubbing away the lies planted by parental folly, and giving you the mind of Christ so that you can stand firm and fruitful.
So pray on. Ask for fresh truth day after day. As you abide in His Word and let it richly dwell in you, you will find your mind being transformed, your emotions settling, and your spirit strengthened. And as you continue to honor your parents, not by endorsing every action but by walking in the grace and truth of Jesus, you position yourself to receive the promises. The breakdown in families has caused a tremendous breakdown in society, but you can be part of the reversal. Keep craving the pure milk of the Word and moving toward maturity. The fruit of true discipleship will come as you continue in Him, and your joy will be made complete, not necessarily because every physical ailment vanishes overnight, but because you have tasted the goodness of answered prayer and the healing that reaches the deepest places of the soul. Trust the Lord to deliver you and them in His own perfect way, and know that He is faithful to complete what He began.
