We hear the burden in your heart for this man and for your home, and we join with you in bringing him and your household before the Lord. It is painful to watch someone you love be controlled by drinking, and to see the peace of your home eroded by it. We stand with you asking God for deliverance, healing, and restoration.

The Bible speaks clearly about drunkenness because God knows how destructive it is to the person and to the family God has entrusted to us. Proverbs 20:1 says Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Ephesians 5:18 says Dont be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. To be drunk is not simply a struggle or a habit, it is sin that gives the enemy a foothold and brings dissipation and harm to a home. 1 Corinthians 6:10 reminds us that drunkards will not inherit Gods Kingdom unless they repent and are washed by the grace of Jesus. We say this not to condemn but to lovingly rebuke what is harming him and your family, so that he may turn fully to Christ for freedom. God does not want him in bondage. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. There is a way of escape in Jesus.

We encourage you to continue to pray fervently and to seek wise, godly help alongside prayer. James 5:16 says The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. God can break chains that seem unbreakable. At the same time, love calls for truth and boundaries. Encourage him to confess this struggle to the Lord, to seek accountability in the church, to pursue pastoral counseling and, if needed, practical help for alcohol dependence. You also need support, so do not walk this alone. Bring trusted, mature believers around you, stay in the Word, and guard your own heart with prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If this man has not yet put his faith in Jesus, his greatest need is to believe that Jesus died for his sins and rose again, to repent and to receive Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is Jesus who forgives, delivers, and makes us new.

We pray together now for you both.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and mediator. We lift up this dear man who is bound by drinking, and we lift up the home that is being wounded by it. Lord, have mercy and bring conviction and godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Break the power of alcohol over his life and set him free, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit, give him a hunger for Your Word and a hatred for sin, and make him a man of self control and sober mind. Galatians 5:22-23 says the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Produce that fruit in him, Lord.

We pray for healing in this home. Bring peace where there has been strife, trust where there has been hurt, and restoration where there has been damage. Strengthen the one who submitted this request, guard their heart and mind, give them wisdom to speak truth in love, to set healthy boundaries, and to not grow weary in doing good. Surround this family with godly counsel and a faithful church that will walk with them. We ask that this trial would draw them both closer to You and, if this is a marriage, that You would make that marriage strong and honoring to You, reflecting Christ and His church.

We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, believing that You hear us, that You can deliver, and that Your will is for wholeness and holiness. Amen.

We've been thinking about you and the weight you're carrying at home. Watching someone you love struggle with drinking, and feeling the strain it puts on daily life together, is exhausting and lonely. We are praying for you both.

One thing we have seen help over time is that no one walks out of addiction alone. Lasting change usually needs a steady, supportive community around the person, and also support for the family who loves them. You don't have to figure out the whole path at once.

If it would help, consider taking one small step toward that kind of support this week. It might be talking confidentially with a trusted pastor or counselor about what home life looks like right now and what healthy boundaries could be. Many churches offer a recovery group like Celebrate Recovery, and community groups like Alcoholics Anonymous have also helped many families find understanding and accountability through a sponsor and regular meetings. Having another wise person in your corner can make it easier to know what to do next.

Please also remember your own wellbeing matters. If drinking is affecting safety or health at home, reaching out promptly to a counselor, medical professional or trusted leader for guidance is a caring step, not a betrayal.

Father, we bring this family to You. Bring comfort to this home, give wisdom for next steps, surround them with trustworthy help, and draw him toward the strength to seek help. Give peace and resilience to the one who loves him. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

Your grief has been brought before the Lord and before His people, and we have heard how this sin of strong drink is bringing sorrow into your home. It is a cruel master and a bitter enemy to peace, and we do well to lay it before Him who alone can give deliverance.

Be not persuaded by that lying arrow which says that God's ear is shut and He will never move His arm to save. The Lord hears the cry of the afflicted, and there is no pit so deep that His arm is shortened. We have known many who stayed at their own brook Jabbok in fear and trembling, and have lived to tell how God met them there and turned sorrow into peace for the comfort of others in like trouble.

Know this, that deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. If this dear one is to be set free from the bondage of drink, it must be HE that brings him forth. Yet He is mighty to do it, for He has found a ransom. There is music in that word for every sinner slipping down toward the pit, when God says, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. That ransom is the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, who came to save us from worse enemies than any earthly foe, and to work a greater salvation than any deliverance known in Israel of old.

We take comfort also from Peter. He was down, but he was soon up again by the look of his Lord. Though a man has fallen grievously, Christ is able to restore him, and to make his restoration sure, for Jesus ever lives to pray for His own. That same look which severed Peter from the crowd and broke his heart can break the power of this sin and bring a man back to soberness and to home and to duty.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, who delivers from the power of darkness and translates us into the kingdom of Thy dear Son, look in mercy upon this home now troubled and wounded. Thou hast seen the tears and heard the cries which have gone up day and night. Have mercy upon him who is held by strong drink, and deliver him from going down to the pit, for Thou hast found a ransom. By Thy Spirit convict him of sin, bring him to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and break the chains which bind him. Grant him hatred for this sin and hunger for righteousness, and give him power to walk in newness of life. We pray for healing in this home, for peace within its borders, for strength for the one who suffers alongside him, that she may be sustained and kept from despair, and may live to declare the works of the Lord after this affliction. Make this deliverance effectual, and let it be attended with enrichment, that this family may be brought forth not only free, but restored and established in Thy grace. Hear us for Christ's sake. Amen.

Continue in prayer and in hope. Cast your care upon Him, keep close to the Word, seek the help of faithful pastors and godly counsel in your place, and trust not in the will of man but in free grace alone. The Lord chastens sorely, but He does not give His people over unto death, and those whom He delivers shall live to tell of His mercy.
