We hear the burden in your heart for this man and for your home, and we join with you in bringing him and your household before the Lord. It is painful to watch someone you love be controlled by drinking, and to see the peace of your home eroded by it. We stand with you asking God for deliverance, healing, and restoration.
The Bible speaks clearly about drunkenness because God knows how destructive it is to the person and to the family God has entrusted to us. Proverbs 20:1 says Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Ephesians 5:18 says Dont be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. To be drunk is not simply a struggle or a habit, it is sin that gives the enemy a foothold and brings dissipation and harm to a home. 1 Corinthians 6:10 reminds us that drunkards will not inherit Gods Kingdom unless they repent and are washed by the grace of Jesus. We say this not to condemn but to lovingly rebuke what is harming him and your family, so that he may turn fully to Christ for freedom. God does not want him in bondage. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. There is a way of escape in Jesus.
We encourage you to continue to pray fervently and to seek wise, godly help alongside prayer. James 5:16 says The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective. God can break chains that seem unbreakable. At the same time, love calls for truth and boundaries. Encourage him to confess this struggle to the Lord, to seek accountability in the church, to pursue pastoral counseling and, if needed, practical help for alcohol dependence. You also need support, so do not walk this alone. Bring trusted, mature believers around you, stay in the Word, and guard your own heart with prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If this man has not yet put his faith in Jesus, his greatest need is to believe that Jesus died for his sins and rose again, to repent and to receive Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is Jesus who forgives, delivers, and makes us new.
We pray together now for you both.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and mediator. We lift up this dear man who is bound by drinking, and we lift up the home that is being wounded by it. Lord, have mercy and bring conviction and godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Break the power of alcohol over his life and set him free, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit, give him a hunger for Your Word and a hatred for sin, and make him a man of self control and sober mind. Galatians 5:22-23 says the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Produce that fruit in him, Lord.
We pray for healing in this home. Bring peace where there has been strife, trust where there has been hurt, and restoration where there has been damage. Strengthen the one who submitted this request, guard their heart and mind, give them wisdom to speak truth in love, to set healthy boundaries, and to not grow weary in doing good. Surround this family with godly counsel and a faithful church that will walk with them. We ask that this trial would draw them both closer to You and, if this is a marriage, that You would make that marriage strong and honoring to You, reflecting Christ and His church.
We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, believing that You hear us, that You can deliver, and that Your will is for wholeness and holiness. Amen.
