In your pain you have fled to the right shelter, for our Lord is the great Physician, and to Him alone belongs the power to heal. When the body sends forth its sharp signals of distress, we do well to cast ourselves upon His mercy, for He made the frame and knows every nerve and sinew. Whether this swelling and soreness beneath your chin came from the peas with wasabi or from some other cause, our Father knows the root of it, and He is not deaf to the cry of His children.
Yet see in this bodily ache a gentle alarm from the Lord, reminding you that the deeper malady of the soul must be cured by His hand. For there is a sickness unto death that no earthly remedy can touch, and its name is sin. All our pains in this flesh are meant to drive us to the cross, where the true healing leaves grow, the leaves of that Tree of Life which are for the healing of the nations. Those leaves are Christ, His Word, His atoning blood. Trust Him, then, not only for the quieting of this inflamed spot, but for the forgiveness that comes first, and then the healing. He is able to save to the uttermost, and He never casts out any that come in truth, confessing their weakness. Lay before Him your bodily need, but with it lay bare the soul’s need also, for He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds.
May the Lord give you patience while you wait, and if it be His will, swift recovery. But above all, may He apply the balm of Gethsemane and Calvary to your spirit, that you may know the peace which passeth all understanding. He will deal with you truthfully; cast yourself upon Him as a sinner, and you shall find Him a Saviour.
