Healing

It is good that you cry out to God in your bodily pain, and you do well to cling to the promise that by the stripes of Jesus you are healed. Yet consider that this house of prayer is a spiritual surgery, and we must not only seek the healing of the body but also submit to the knife of the Physician for the soul.

This affliction, this humbling disorder in a hidden place, may be permitted by God for a purpose. Just as I must sometimes give pain to my hearers not willingly but on compulsion, so the Lord may permit a physical galling to deliver us from a deeper spiritual dullness. When the body suffers, it can rouse the soul from its slumber, making us more reverent, elevating the mind, and casting out desires that so mischievously beset us. The thing becomes a cure.

I would fain speak only of the green pastures and the still waters where sorrow and sighing flee away. But because we are often in sins, the more part of us, I must ask: have you examined whether this pain might be a mercy to keep you from a far bitterer reality? It is far better to be galled now and delivered from the disease of sin than to have a healthy body and a soul hastening unwarned toward punishment. Do not despise the remedy because it stings, nor seek only the removal of the hemorrhoid while the tumor of pride or carelessness remains untouched.

Pray, then, for healing, and we join our prayers with yours in agreement. But pray also for patience and for the wisdom to learn whatever lesson the Lord intends through this suffering. For if we are insensible to ten discourses, yet afterwards one blow may bring forth abundant fruit. May you be made whole in body, but far more, may you be made whole in that inner man, laying hold on eternal life, where the body shall no longer be broken.

You are reaching out in faith, standing on the promise that by the stripes of Jesus you are healed. That is a powerful and scriptural truth, drawn straight from the heart of Isaiah’s prophecy and the way Matthew applies it to physical healing. Jesus bore our infirmities and carried our diseases. So when you declare that your broken body is made whole, you are laying hold of something real that Christ accomplished.

At the same time, healing in Scripture shows us a mystery we cannot fully unravel. Jesus healed instantly with a word, sometimes with a touch, and at other times a man’s sight returned only gradually. A woman felt power leave him the moment she grasped his garment. A centurion’s servant was healed at a distance. And the only gradual healing recorded reminds us that some recover step by step, through processes God himself designed into the body. Any true healing, whether it comes in a moment or over days of slow mending, is still divine, because God is the author of every restorative process in creation.

So we join you in asking for the hemorrhoids and the pain to be removed. We pray for relief so complete that surgery is not needed. But even as we pray, we hold this desire before the Lord with open hands. There is no formula we can press that obligates him, and the record of Paul pleading three times for his thorn to be taken away warns us that God does not always will healing on our timeline. Sometimes the greater work is done in our spirit, in our mind, as he heals the wounds and fears that pain brings.

I do not know why some are healed and others are not. The world groans under the weight of sin, and pain finds its way into the lives of the faithful and the rebellious alike. Yet because of Jesus, suffering is never meaningless. Your body is not a stranger to him; he entered into the full experience of human frailty. And whether he lifts this affliction or walks with you through it, he will not leave you.

Let that truth steady you while we pray. We ask for a tangible healing, for the pain to cease and the condition to resolve. We ask for wisdom for the doctors if further steps are needed, and for peace to fill your mind regardless of how things unfold. You are not alone, and your cry is heard.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this difficult time of physical suffering. It has been our heart’s desire to lift you before the Lord, asking Him to touch you with His healing power and bring relief from the pain and discomfort you’ve been enduring. We have prayed in faith, claiming the promise of Isaiah 53:5, that by the stripes of Jesus, you are healed, and we have asked the Great Physician to make your body whole.

If the Lord has already answered this prayer and brought you the healing you sought—whether through a miraculous touch or the wisdom of medical care—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Please share how God has moved in your life so that we may rejoice with you and give Him all the glory.

If, however, the pain and struggle persist, we encourage you to post this request again so that we may continue to intercede on your behalf. We will not grow weary in praying for your complete restoration, trusting that God hears the cries of His children and is faithful to His promises. Let us stand together in agreement, believing that His timing and His ways are perfect.

May the Lord strengthen you, comfort you, and draw you closer to Himself as you continue to seek His face. We pray all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus. Amen.
