Even the leaves of the tree of life are for healing, and what are these but the least things about our Lord Jesus? The very hem of His garment is saturated with virtue; the touch of faith draws it forth. Your suffering with pain and hemorrhoids is no small trial, for bodily afflictions press hard upon us, but there is balm in Gilead and a Physician there. The power of the Lord is present to heal, not as a fickle force that comes and goes, but as the abiding fullness of Him who bore our sicknesses. You have laid hold of that truth by faith, declaring that by His stripes you are healed. That is a good confession, for it anchors the soul upon the finished work of Calvary, where atonement and relief meet in one crimson flood.
Yet I would have you see that when Jesus forgives sin, He often sends healing to the body as a sweet token of that deeper cure. The paralytic was told, "Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee," and then, "Arise, take up thy bed and walk." Pardon and healing are twin gifts from a Father’s hand. So, as you pray for the hemorrhoids to disappear, remember that His first concern is to cleanse the inner man. Seek that washing with greater earnestness, and the outward answer, if it be for your good and His glory, shall not tarry. The Lord can cause these swollen veins to shrink back, restoring ease without the knife, for nothing is too hard for Him who made the body and understands all its secret chambers.
But take heed: faith is not a mere saying of words, but a resting of the whole weight upon Christ. It is easy to profess, "I am healed," and yet in the heart to harbor doubt. True faith hears the Word, embraces the promise, and looks away from the pain to the Crucified One. As He is teaching you in this affliction, do not miss the lesson. The power to heal was conspicuously present when Christ was teaching, so let your spirit listen and learn. There may be a meaning in this trial beyond the physical; perhaps He is drawing you nearer to Himself, breaking the hard soil of your heart that grace may rain upon it. A broken body can be the pathway to a healed soul, and that is the greater miracle.
If it pleases Him to deliver you from surgery, give Him all the praise. If He chooses rather to sustain you through it, remember that His grace is sufficient, and the leaves of the tree are not withered, they are still for your healing. In either case, the end is that you might minister to Him. Peter’s mother-in-law, once healed of her fever, rose and served them. So must it be with you. In health or in continued affliction, your business is to magnify His name. Do not grow weary of waiting; the Lord’s timing is perfect. I join my faith with yours, pleading the promise, "I am the Lord that healeth thee." May the Spirit Himself overshadow you, bringing sweet relief and a calm endurance, until the day when all sickness is gone for ever and we wear the likeness of the Son of God. Amen.
