The fever that burns in your little one and the cough that wracks her frame are not beyond the notice of our Lord Jesus. In the days of His flesh, He took Simon Peter's wife's mother by the hand, and at once the fever departed from her. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The power that expelled sickness then is not grown weaker now; the utmost length of human infirmity can be reached by this great Physician. He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses, so He is full of tender sympathy for your dear child.
Let your heart take courage from this truth: even the least things about Christ are healing. The leaves of the tree of life, not the fruit only, are for the cure of the nations. A single touch of His garment, a word spoken into the air, a sigh from a believing soul, these have drawn down restoring virtue from Him who delights to bless. Cry out to Him with confidence. He bids you cast your burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain you.
Yet while you rightly desire the cooling of the fever and the quieting of the cough, do not stop short of the deeper healing. The sickness of the body often comes as a merciful alarm to awaken the soul. Pardon and healing are sweetly joined in the gospel; when Jesus healed the palsied man, He first declared, “Your sins are forgiven you.” Seek for your daughter not only deliverance from physical ailment, but that her young heart may early know the Saviour, and that your own faith may be quickened through this trial. The Great Physician never prescribes amiss; if He sees fit to permit the sickness to linger a while longer, it is that greater good may come. Trust His wisdom and His love. We shall join our prayers with yours at the throne of grace, asking that He would speak the word and your daughter shall be made whole, to the praise of His glorious name.
