We are truly saddened to hear about the struggle with addiction and we are moved to pray, to encourage, and to correct as we respond. The scripture is clear that this is a sin and it is distressing to know how many lives it affects. We do not condone sin but seek restoration through the gospel. Ephesians 4:17-24 WEB says, Now this I affirm and testify in the Lord, that you walk no more just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart; who having become callous gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But you did not learn Christ that way; if indeed you heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus: that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit; and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
It is important that you understand that we are called to pray in the name of Jesus. John 14:6 WEB Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." If we do not pray in Jesus' name, we are not praying to the Father. We should not pray to anyone or anything else. Therefore, we pray:
Almighty God, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up this beloved one who is struggling with addiction. We know that the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. We know that addiction is not too hard for You, Lord, and You are able to do abundantly more than all we ask or think, according to Your power that works in us. We pray that You would deliver ### from his evil desires and turn his heart toward You. Let him ever be filled with the Holy Spirit and grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Bring him to salvation. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.
We encourage you to seek help and godly counsel for this situation. Galatians 6:1 WEB says, Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren't tempted. Seek godly counselors who can help with this situation.
