Healing, strength, peace

Thank you for sharing this burden for your ###, and for coming to the Father with thanksgiving even as you ask. I join you in lifting him up before the Lord in the name of Jesus.

God cares for the whole person, body, mind and spirit, and those parts are deeply connected. The Scriptures show this when John prays that we would prosper and be in good health even as our soul prospers, and when the proverb says a joyful heart does good like medicine. What happens in the soul and mind affects the body, and what happens in the body affects the inner life. That is why your prayer for physical, mental and spiritual healing together is so fitting. We often care carefully for the physical needs, with food and rest and medical help, and we must also care for the spiritual life, nourishing it daily in Christ, because true wholeness comes when the inner person is renewed.

We can bring every kind of need to Jesus with confidence, because His suffering and death made provision for both soul and body. Isaiah foretold that the chastisement for our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed, and Matthew by the Holy Spirit applies that promise to the physical healings Jesus did, when He healed the leper, the centurion's servant, Peter's mother in law and the multitudes that were brought to Him in the evening. Peter echoes the same truth. This shows that the Lord's power extends over the physical realm as well as the spiritual, and we can trust Him for bodily healing as well as forgiveness and restoration of the heart. Sometimes that healing comes at once, and sometimes it comes gradually through a process, but every true healing is from God, who created our bodies and ordained the means by which they recover. He also heals the wounds of the mind and emotions, bringing wholeness where there has been hurt or heaviness.

You also asked for renewed strength. When our own strength fails, Scripture points us to the Lord Himself as our strength. David prayed in his later years that God would not forsake him when his strength was gone, and asked that his mouth would be filled with praise to the One who is his strength. In our weakness we learn to say it is not my strength but You are my strength. He gives power to the faint and renews those who wait on Him.

And you asked for restored peace. Real peace begins with peace with God, which comes only through the blood of Jesus shed for our sins. When we have peace with God, we can know the peace of God. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, and the promise is that the peace of God which passes all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ. Isaiah says He will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him. As you and your ### turn your thoughts to the Lord and trust that He is in control, that steady, quiet confidence can fill the heart even when circumstances are still difficult. It is a peace the world cannot understand, and it is a mark of His Spirit at work within us. Those who sow peace reap a harvest of righteousness, and God delights to give His children a life marked by that peace.

So let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus Your Son, I thank You for Your mercy and grace toward this family. I ask You to touch this ### in body, mind and spirit. Lay Your healing hand upon any sickness or infirmity, bring healing to his thoughts and emotions, and renew his spirit through Your presence. Where strength has failed, be his strength and restore him. Where peace has been troubled, grant him peace with You through Christ and then Your perfect peace that guards heart and mind as his mind is stayed on You. Make his soul to prosper in Your truth and love, and let that life within bring health and wholeness without. Keep him in Your care, fill him with hope, and help his family to rest in the confidence that You are working for good. May grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ be upon him and upon you. Amen.
