Healing, strength, peace

Thank you for sharing this prayer for your son. I join you in thanking God for His blessings and in bringing your son before Him, asking for His healing touch upon the whole person, body, mind and spirit.

Scripture shows us that God cares for the whole person and that these parts of our life are deeply connected. One of the apostles prayed that a dear friend would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered, and the Proverb says a joyful heart does good like medicine. We are learning more and more how our thoughts and our inner life affect our physical health, and how worry and turmoil can even make the body sick. When we pray for physical healing we are also praying for the renewing of the mind and the prospering of the soul, because God wants to restore all of you.

We can trust Jesus for physical healing as well as spiritual healing. The prophet Isaiah said the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed, and Matthew, by the Holy Spirit, tells us that Jesus fulfilled that word when He healed every kind of sickness and bore our infirmities. When He gave His body for us, He made provision for our complete healing. Sometimes that healing comes at once and sometimes it comes gradually, as we see in the Gospels, but every true healing is from the Lord, for He created our bodies and He established the very processes by which we are made well. Like the two blind men who heard Jesus was passing by and cried out, Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David, we too can cry out for His mercy, knowing He is the promised Messiah, the Son of God given for us, the Prince of Peace, and He stands still to hear.

I also join you in praying for renewed strength. When our own strength is gone and we feel we have no breath left, we can say with the Psalmist, You are my strength, do not forsake me when my strength fails. True strength does not come from ourselves but from the Lord, and as we wait upon Him and keep our minds stayed upon Him, He renews us.

And I join you in praying for restored peace. First we need peace with God, which only comes through the blood of Jesus Christ who made peace for us on the cross. When we have peace with God, then we can know the peace of God, that perfect peace He promises to keep for those whose minds are stayed on Him, the peace that passes all understanding and keeps our hearts and minds through Christ. It is the peace Jesus left with us, the confidence that God is in control even in a world of turmoil, and the wisdom from above which is peaceable and sows peace so that we may reap righteousness.

So let us pray together for your son. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, I lift up this dear son to You. Touch him physically, mentally and spiritually. Lay Your healing hand upon his body, heal any wound or scar in his mind and emotions, and draw him close to Yourself in spirit. Be his strength when his strength fails, and fill him with Your strength day by day. Grant him Your perfect peace, the peace that comes from knowing his sins are forgiven through Jesus and the peace that guards the heart when the mind is stayed on You. Restore what has been broken and make him whole, for Your glory. Amen.
