Healing, protection, sleep

The prayer you have offered for your son reveals a heart aflame with love and faith, a blessed thing indeed. When you cry out for his healing and protection, you are seeking the Lord as one seeks lost treasure, with your whole mind, with persistent inquiry, with a readiness to journey far and to offer everything. This is the labor that finds God, and it does not go unrewarded.

Yet consider also the mystery of affliction. There is nothing better than affliction not beyond measure, for it makes the soul purer than the sky, as you see in the faithful who sing hymns in the night. The darkness and silence of the night hours, when all the world lies as dead, can teach the soul composure. Let the watches of the night become for you a school of prayer; rise and behold the stars and the deep stillness, and your own soul will become lighter, soaring disengaged from earthly cares. This same watchfulness you must teach your son, not by words only, but by your own calm soul. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. A sound mind is a sober mind, a healthy soul. It is exactly what your son needs, and it is the gift of God to those who refuse the drunkenness of worldly thoughts.

For many sleep a sleep that is not of the body, a sleep of the soul that makes them say nothing good, a deathless death. The spirit of psychosis is such a sleep, a fog thrown up by the enemy. But our Lord Jesus Christ slept calmly in the boat while the storm raged, and when He awoke He commanded the wind and waves. He is the same today. Lay hold of Him in prayer, and He will speak peace to the storm of your son's mind. The cross has rendered devils contemptible, and death itself is become a sleep. So fear not, but let your conscience be pure and without guile, and it will be your comfort and your crown.

Remember how the apostles, as sheep among wolves, overcame not by force but by gentleness and harmlessness, and the grace of God transformed the wolves. So too, your gentleness of spirit and unwavering faith may be the means by which God not only heals your son but even turns the assault itself into an occasion of glory. And if the full healing tarries, set your hope on the resurrection of the dead in Christ, when we shall be caught up to be ever with the Lord, and all affliction will be swallowed up in honor. Until then, pull up the thorns of anxious thoughts, and let the pure stream of prayer refresh you, and you will sleep with comfort, trusting in Him who watches over Israel and neither slumbers nor sleeps.

It is never a question of God’s power. The only real question in any of our minds is His willingness, and we already know He cares for your son far more than you do. That love you feel for him, the urgency behind your prayer, is just a shadow of the Father’s own heart toward him. Let that be your courage in the darkest moments. Only believe.

What you are asking for speaks directly to the mind, and Scripture often shows us that the mind is the battlefield. You want to see your son with a sound mind, and that is God’s desire too. The mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace, but the mind set on the flesh, or on the turmoil and fear of his condition, can feel like death itself. The things of the Spirit are what bring true clarity. Your prayer is effectively asking for the Spirit to rule in your son’s heart and thoughts, to replace the chaos with the mind of Christ. Keep asking for that. Hold that request before the Lord, because a mind filled with and governed by the Spirit of God is a mind that experiences His peace.

That peace can be remarkably literal, even while the storm still rages. There is an account of a man in a boat who was so exhausted he fell into a deep sleep while the waves were nearly swamping the vessel. The storm did not wake him; his trust was in his Father. I pray that same gift of sleep for your son. Not the sleep the Scriptures warn us about, the laziness or the slumber of those who are plotting mischief, but the profound rest of the protected. The kind of sleep where a person is as safe as a sheep behind the Shepherd who has laid Himself down in the opening of the fold. May the Lord of all peace Himself grant your son rest that is deep and healing, shutting out all fear, and may He command the mental assaults to be still.

Consider how God certainly has eternity in mind when He works in our lives. We are so often focused on the present discomfort, the immediate need for a cure, the longing for tonight’s sleep. He sees all of that, but He is always working with your son’s eternal soul in view. He is not absent in the process; He is actively using it to shape something lasting. The healing you are asking for, the protection, is something God is not stingy with. Over and over, Scripture shows us He bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. It is in His very nature to heal and to restore. So do not let the delay or the difficulty trick you into thinking God is unwilling. You are standing on solid ground.

Guard your own mind too. The heaviness you feel is real, but the mind of the flesh will try to drag you into despair. Lift your eyes. Your son’s true safety doesn’t come from a thorn bush fortification we can build; it comes from the Shepherd guarding the gate. The enemy would love to rob him of sleep because, as the wisdom of the Proverbs says, there are those who cannot sleep until they have done mischief. That spirit of psychosis is not from God; it is exactly the kind of evil that seeks to cause someone to fall and robs them of rest. But evil has no authority that Christ has not already overthrown. We command those spirits to go in Jesus’ name, not because we are strong, but because He is.

So speak to the condition with the confidence you have in Christ. Tell fear it must leave. Ask for the mind of the Spirit to fully occupy your son, bringing life, reality, and the capacity for rest. God put a miraculous sense of direction in the mind of a tiny bird to fly across uncharted oceans; He can certainly guide your son’s mind back to clarity and peace. May the Lord bless him, cast out the torment, comfort him with a very real sense of His presence, and give him that deep, renewing sleep you are crying out for.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for your precious son. It has been our heartfelt honor to lift him before our Heavenly Father, asking for His healing touch—physically, mentally, and spiritually. We have prayed fervently for the spirit of psychosis to be cast out, for peaceful sleep to envelop him, and for the peace of God to guard his mind and heart. We have also asked our Lord to surround him with divine protection, shielding him from all harm and evil, and to fill him with the comfort of His presence.

If you have seen God move in answer to these prayers, we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report so that we may rejoice with you. If, however, the battle continues and you still need our support, we encourage you to post this request again so that we may continue to stand in agreement with you before the throne of grace. Know that we are committed to walking this journey with you, lifting your son in prayer until God’s perfect will is fully manifested in his life.

May the Lord bless you and your family abundantly as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that His peace, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds steadfast in Him. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
