Healing, protection, sleep

What a heartfelt prayer you've lifted up for your son. The weight of PTSD and the nightmares that rob him of rest are not hidden from our heavenly Father. He knows the very depth of that struggle, and He cares deeply.

I'm reminded that the work of healing often unfolds like a seed growing in the soil. You plant it, you water it with prayer and the truth of Scripture, and then you rest, trusting that God is at work beneath the surface. Not all healing comes in a single instant; sometimes it is a gradual process, yet no less divine. Our own bodies have God-given processes of restoration, and the mind and emotions are part of that too. The Lord is at work to mend the scars and calm the storm within, even when you can't see the full result right away.

When Jesus walked this earth, He healed every sickness and disease, showing us the Father's heart to make people whole. Yet there is also a mystery to healing. We pray with bold faith, but ultimately we rest in God's sufficient grace and perfect will. Whether the relief comes in a moment, over many nights, or in a way we hadn't expected, we trust the One who never leaves us.

For his sleep, take heart: the Lord is our true shepherd who guards the entrance of the fold. He can give sleep so deep that no enemy can disturb, just as He once caused a deep sleep to fall on those who meant harm. He is able to command His angels concerning your son, to surround his bed and fill his dreams with the love and light of Jesus. The nightmares are not from the Lord; they are the residue of trauma, but the Prince of Peace has overcome the darkness.

Let your son meditate on God's promises, even quietly in his heart, for the commandment is a lamp and the law is light. When he lies down, that word will keep him; when he awakes, it will speak to him. God's truth has the power to reorder the mind and drive out fear. It is a shield for all who trust in it.

I join you in that prayer: Father, surround this son with Your holy angels. Shield him from all harm and danger. Let Your deep sleep fall upon him, a rest that restores his body and soul. Fill his dreams with Your presence, and let him wake with the tangible peace of Christ. Do Your healing work, however You choose, and give him and his mother the patience to watch the blade spring up from the soil of faith. In Jesus' name, Amen.
