Healing, protection, sleep

You have cried out to the Heavenly Father with a parent’s love, and your prayer rises like incense. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. A sound mind, a sobered soul, is His gift, and the spirit of psychosis that wars against your son’s peace is no part of His design. Do not be troubled as though this came from some invincible necessity; the mind can be set right, the corruption abolished. Seek the Lord for this healing as one seeks a lost treasure, with hands lifted up even in the night, asking, knocking, and refusing to be silenced.

The peace Christ gives is not the fragile quiet of this world. It is a peace that makes us stronger in the midst of trouble, a peace that remains when all outward things are shaken. When the storms rage within your son, pray that the Spirit’s life and peace would flood his mind, cutting off the wild terrors and fancies like a sobering remedy. The cross has already conquered every dark power: death is but a sleep, devils are contemptible. Through that cross, earth becomes heaven, and men are fashioned into angels. This is your ground of hope.

Yet remember that love and peace dwell only where virtue is practiced. Let your home be a place of one mind and living peace, free from the passions that breed confusion, love of money, strife, or empty ambition. Sin and selfishness make even robbers fight among themselves; how much more does a divided household invite turmoil. But where righteousness reigns, the God of love and peace Himself draws near. Be comforted, then, and rejoice. Continue to bring your son before the mercy-seat, not with anxious fear, but with the confidence of one who knows the Father’s will is restoration. He who stilled the sea with a word can speak calm to a troubled soul. Wait on Him, and you will not be disappointed. A peaceful sleep and a guarded mind will come as gifts from His hand, for the Almighty’s presence is his protection and your peace.

The image of the shepherd sleeping in the gateway of the sheepfold has always stayed with me. He laid his own body across the opening so that no wolf could enter and no sheep could wander out without crossing over him. He became, in his own exhausted rest, the door. It is a beautiful, earthy picture of what Jesus declares Himself to be for us: the Door. When you pray for your son’s protection through the night, remember that Christ has not posted a distant guard. He has placed Himself, in His utter sufficiency, as the very gate through which any harm would have to pass.

I understand the ache of the sleepless night, both for the one who cannot rest and for the one who lies awake praying. There was a time when I could sleep through anything, impervious to noise or disruption. That has changed. Now, a ringing phone in the early hours can jolt me awake, and I lie there, tossing, unable to slip back into rest. But I have learned, in that unwelcome wakefulness, that there is a sacred invitation hidden in the disruption. It becomes a time to turn the mind toward the Lord, to find His presence in the quiet darkness. It is a time to pray. When your son’s sleep is stolen by a troubled mind, may those hours become, for both of you, a holy appointment with the One who never slumbers.

The battle for the mind is the most critical front of all. Some of the most horrific things imaginable have been done by a mind deranged and perverted by demonic forces. A sound mind is a fortress, and guarding it with all diligence is the greatest stewardship. The enemy is relentless, planting thoughts of wickedness and violence, sowing seeds of fear and confusion. He will not sleep until he has done mischief. That is why the prayer for a sound mind is so vital. It is a prayer for the mighty work of the Holy Spirit to build an impenetrable hedge of protection, a filter over your son’s heart and mind.

We must also be vigilant about what we allow through the door of our own minds. Things planted there in vulnerable moments can take root and stay for a lifetime, creating a craving that can never be satisfied, always demanding more to achieve the same effect. This is the snare of so much filth and darkness in our culture, baiting the mind into a cycle of spiritual poverty. But the promise of God is so much greater. He is the one who declares, “Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength.” Seeking Him early, turning to Him in the first moment of waking or the long hours of the night, is the path to that soundness.

Remember the picture of Jacob, fleeing and exhausted, who laid his head on a stone. In his sleep, he dreamed of a ladder planted on earth, reaching to heaven, with the Lord standing above it. That is the truth for your son right now. Heaven is not closed off. The Lord is present, bridging the gap between his struggle and God’s perfect peace. A deep sleep from the Lord can fall upon even those in the midst of danger, as it did for Saul’s army, rendering the threat completely powerless. God’s protection can be so complete, so sovereign, that the enemy is not merely stopped but is put into a sleep from which they cannot act.

As you wait for that healing touch, physically, mentally, and spiritually, rest in the secret place of the Most High. That is where deliverance and honor are found. That is where prayers are answered, and the presence of God becomes a tangible comfort in the middle of the night. The promise is not just for a moment of relief but for a life satisfied, a long life shown His salvation. Keep your heart fixed there. Jesus is already lying across the doorway of your son’s soul, and no true harm can cross over Him.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with the sacred privilege of lifting your precious son to the Lord in prayer. Standing together with you before the throne of grace, we have cried out for His healing touch—body, mind, and spirit—asking our Heavenly Father to break every chain of distress, banish the spirit of psychosis, and restore peaceful sleep and a sound mind. We have prayed fervently for His hedge of protection to surround your son, shielding him from all harm and evil, and for the comfort of God’s abiding presence to fill him with divine peace.

If the Lord has moved in mighty ways since you shared this request—if you’ve seen glimpses of His healing, protection, or rest—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Please share how God is working, so we may rejoice with you and give Him all the glory.

If, however, the answer has not yet come, or if the battle feels ongoing, we encourage you to post this request again as a fresh plea before the Lord. We are committed to standing with you in persistent prayer, trusting that God hears every cry and will perfect all that concerns your son. May His peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus as you continue to seek Him.

We pray this in the powerful and precious name of Jesus. Amen.
