Healing in mind and heart

Your request for healing in your mind and heart has been heard, and thank you for trusting us with something so painful. The distress that comes from abuse and trauma leaves deep marks, and God sees both the memories that trouble your mind and the ache in your heart. He cares about your wholeness and He wants to bring you into real peace.

Scripture makes a distinction that is important here. First there is peace with God, and then there is the peace of God. Peace with God comes only through Jesus Christ, through His blood shed for the forgiveness of sins. He Himself is our peace, the one who has broken down the wall between us and God. When we turn to Him and receive that forgiveness, the war is over. We are no longer running from God or fighting against Him. Without that, there is no lasting peace, the heart remains like a troubled sea. With it, God says peace, peace to those who are near and to those who have been far off, for He will heal.

Then, as you walk with Him, He offers the peace of God to keep your heart and mind. The promise is that He will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. And that peace passes all understanding and guards the heart and mind in Christ Jesus. It does not mean the world around you becomes calm, but that inside you can know a deep steadiness as you fix your thoughts on Him and trust Him to care for what you cannot carry.

Healing is also part of what Christ has provided. The prophet Isaiah said He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows, and that the chastisement for our peace was upon Him and by His wounds we are healed. That healing includes the body, but it also includes the wounds in the mind and emotions, the scars left by what others have done. Sometimes the Lord brings healing instantly, sometimes it is a gradual work, step by step, as He gently restores. Both are His work, and both are divine, because He has established the process of healing within us. Do not be discouraged if peace and healing come gradually. Keep bringing your mind back to Him, asking Him to fill your heart with His love and to renew your thoughts day by day.

We are praying for you now.

Father, we thank You for Your mercy and grace. We lift up this dear one who is carrying distressing memories and a wounded heart, and we ask in the name of Jesus Christ that You would forgive, cleanse, and make peace through His sacrifice. Grant peace with You, and then pour out the peace of God to guard the mind and heart. Keep this mind stayed on You, and let Your perfect peace fill the places where fear and pain have lived. Lay Your healing hand upon every hurt, and restore what has been broken. Let there be the quiet assurance that You are in control and that You will take care of what is entrusted to You. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.
