The blood of Jesus whispers peace within! Peace, yes, perfect peace! What a Heaven lies within! Peace gleaming with a heavenly light even in the midnight of this world of care. You are accepted in the Beloved, justified by faith, and have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Acquaint thyself with God and be at peace. Meditate on his law both day and night, and thou shalt be like a tree planted by the rivers of water; thy leaf shall not wither; thou shalt bring forth fruit in thy season, and whatsoever thou doest shall prosper.
Deliverance from a cruel captivity, like that of Israel in Egypt, must be worked by the hand and outstretched arm of Jehovah, alone! This deliverance came when the lamb was slain. He feels that if he ever rises from his despondency, he can never dare to take an atom of the honor of deliverance to himself, it must be of Free Grace only. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin! Where we look for justification, there must we also look for sanctification, for as we are justified through Jesus Christ, we must also expect to receive sanctification from a heavenly source. And when since then we have learned to look continually to Him and to find in His wounds our healing, and in His death our life, oh, I hope we are thanking God!
The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Overwhelming evidence will come before you to show that our nation needs healing if you traverse the streets beneath the pale light of the moon, or even pass the doors of those haunts of gaiety which have, of late, been so enormously multiplied. And all individuals in every nation need healing. The least thing about Christ is healing. Oh, that the Sun of Righteousness would rise with healing beneath His wings on every soul that now sits in the midnight of despair! Pardon and healing were one! O you who are now sick unto death, ask to be forgiven and healing will come from the pardoning hand.
“Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away? In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they.” To do the will of Jesus, this is rest. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: because he trusts in You. If you will not trust God, neither shall you have peace. It is that touch of personal faith which brings peace to the soul. Bear your sorrow with Him and then see what peace, what perfect peace, you will enjoy, even with sorrows surging round!
“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” If we had no troubles, we would all have less to declare. They are so interested in what God has done that they grow enthusiastic about it, and if they held their peace, the stones would cry out! Brethren, if Christ has delivered us from the noise of archers, and we are at perfect peace with heaven, do not let us fold our arms and say, “The work is done, let us sleep in peace.” It is enough! Earth’s struggles soon shall cease, and Jesus calls us to Heaven’s perfect peace.
