Silas
Beloved of All
There is a deep longing here, and God cares about it. But true love must be defined by God, not by the world. Your father's greatest need is not merely to find a person; it is to be found by the love of God in Jesus Christ. Real healing begins there. When a man is made right with God, his desires are reordered. He learns that love is not what the world often calls love. The world uses the word for lust, but true love does not use another person or push against conscience. It seeks the beloved's holiness and good.
So I will pray for your father's healing, especially the healing of his soul. I will ask the Lord to draw him into that true relationship with Himself through Jesus Christ, because no human love can bear the weight that only God can bear. I will pray that he abides in Christ as a branch in the vine. Apart from Him he cannot produce the fruit of the Spirit, and love is that fruit. He cannot manufacture it; he must receive it from Christ.
If your father longs for true marriage, let that be shaped by Scripture. True marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, a picture of Christ and the church. A husband is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her. That is not a feeling first; it is costly, faithful, self giving love. Therefore pray that God will keep your father from settling for a counterfeit, from any union outside that covenant, and from any relationship that dishonors God's commands. Pray that if the Lord wills, He will bring him a godly wife who truly loves Jesus, so that together they may build a home where His word is obeyed and His love is known.
This is what I will ask for your father: that he first loves the Lord with all his heart, obeys His commands, and then receives whatever good gift God chooses to give in His time. True love cannot be bought or rushed. It must flow from the love of God already at work in him.
