Healing and dependency on the Lord

BHAEND

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray that my father will stop drinking and be saved, and think that he doesn't love me or have a terrible mental reaction when he does it, and that I will have healing holistically - near fainting spells, trembling, weaknesses in body, so that I can be gainfully employed. Please pray for my mother's healing and that she will stop being reliant on people and be dependent the Lord for everything and heal from all illnesses that she is having and not be difficult.

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your father, mother, and you to the Lord, who is our Healer, Redeemer, and Strength. First and foremost, we must address the foundational need for salvation, only through faith in Jesus Christ can true transformation and healing begin. The Word declares, "For there is no other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). We pray your father would come to know Christ as his Savior, for it is in Him alone that we find forgiveness, deliverance, and new life. The bondage of alcohol is a spiritual stronghold, and we rebuke it in Jesus’ name. Scripture warns, "Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18). We pray your father would be set free from this addiction, that his mind would be renewed, and that he would no longer be tormented by guilt or anger that spills over into his relationship with you. Father God, break the chains of addiction, soften his heart, and let him see the love You have for him, even when he feels unlovable.

We also lift up your mother, asking the Lord to heal her body, mind, and spirit. Her reliance on people rather than God is a common struggle, but the Word calls us to "trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5). We pray she would find her sufficiency in Christ alone, casting all her anxieties and physical ailments upon Him, for He cares for her (1 Peter 5:7). May she surrender her struggles to the Lord and allow Him to be her strength in weakness. We rebuke the spirit of bitterness, frustration, or difficulty that may have taken root in her heart, asking God to replace it with His peace and joy.

For you, dear one, we pray for complete healing, body, soul, and spirit. The near-fainting spells, trembling, and weakness you describe sound like the effects of deep trauma and stress, and we ask the Lord to restore your strength. Scripture says, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). We declare healing over your body, that you would be strengthened to work and thrive as God intends. The enemy may whisper lies that you are weak or incapable, but we speak the truth of God’s Word over you: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). We pray for financial provision and the ability to secure gainful employment, trusting that God will open doors no man can shut (Revelation 3:8).

We also want to gently address the emotional toll this situation has taken on you. It is understandable to feel unloved or rejected when a parent struggles with addiction or mental health, but we remind you that your worth is not defined by their actions. You are deeply loved by your Heavenly Father, who says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you" (Jeremiah 31:3). We pray you would experience His love in tangible ways and find healing from the pain of feeling unseen or unvalued.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened for this family. We ask for Your mighty hand of deliverance to break the chains of addiction in this father’s life. Soften his heart to receive the salvation that is found only in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Heal his mind from the torment of guilt and anger, and restore his relationship with his child. For this mother, we ask for physical healing and a deepening dependence on You alone. Remove any spirit of bitterness or difficulty, and fill her with Your peace. For this dear child of Yours, we pray for holistic healing, body, mind, and spirit. Strengthen them where they are weak, provide for their needs, and remind them daily of Your unfailing love. Lord, we rebuke the enemy’s lies and declare Your truth over this family. May they each come to know You more deeply and walk in the freedom and purpose You have for them. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to stand on God’s promises, even when circumstances feel overwhelming. Seek out a biblical, Christ-centered community, whether a church, small group, or trusted believers, who can walk alongside you in prayer and support. The road to healing is not always easy, but it is possible through Christ who gives us strength. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and remember that His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9).

We hear the heavy weight you’re carrying, facing your own body’s alarm signals while your heart stays pulled toward both of your parents. That’s a lot for anyone to hold, and we’re grateful you reached out.

Many of the physical sensations you describe, fainting spells, trembling, weakness, are your body’s way of saying something needs attention. We’d encourage you, alongside prayer, to see a doctor who can help sort out what’s happening physically. Doing that isn’t a lack of faith; it’s good stewardship of the body God gave you. And when your own strength is so depleted, professional support can steady you enough to keep moving toward meaningful work.

With your father’s drinking, one of the most loving things you can do right now is refuse to carry a burden that belongs to him. You cannot manage his choices or manufacture his salvation, and trying will only wear you down further. If you find yourself obsessing over whether he loves you when he’s intoxicated, gently remind yourself that addiction distorts what’s real, it speaks lies, and those lies are not your truth. If you have any safe opening to talk with him when he’s sober, sometimes a brief, simple word of care lands better than a heavy confrontation. Beyond that, releasing him into God’s hands daily is not giving up; it’s worship.

For your mom, ask the Lord to quietly draw her dependence upward. You might simply pray for her in moments you’re together rather than trying to correct her patterns. Your own steadiness before God can become a quiet invitation.

We’ll pray with you now.

Lord Jesus, you see this beloved one whose body keeps sounding alarms. Bring wisdom through the right medical care, and steady these physical systems, calm the trembling, strengthen what’s weak, and restore the capacity to work and serve you with dignity. Surround our friend with people who will carry some of this weight alongside them. For their father, we ask for conviction that leads to sobriety and for the saving knowledge of your love. Protect our friend from the sting of words spoken under alcohol’s influence, and let them rest in the truth that your opinion of them stands firm. For their mother, gently reorient her trust toward you alone, and touch her body with your healing mercy. Sustain this household, Jesus. We ask all this in your name alone.

The cry of your heart reaches the throne of grace, and it is a cry that must be answered not by human might, but by that same divine power which moved Noah to build an ark amidst a scoffing world. You speak of your father's bondage to drink and his soul's desperate need. Know this: fear is often the first crack in the prison wall of sin. When the Holy Spirit begins to work, He frequently employs a dread of wrath to drive a sinner to the cross. Do not despise this terror if it comes upon him; it may be the very wind that propels his shipwrecked soul into the harbor of Christ’s mercy. Pray that his fear would not be a servile terror that drives him from God, but a holy alarm that makes him flee to the only refuge. The way of salvation is plain: "Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed." It is not a complex ritual nor a gradual reformation, but a single, soul-saving look unto Jesus. Urge your father’s case before the throne, pleading that he would look and live, for the very instant a sinner trusts in Christ, his sin is removed and he is found in the Beloved.

As for the trembling and faintness that assail your own body, remember this precious truth: "the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations." Our Lord Jesus is that Tree of Life, and from Him flows such abundance of healing that even the least and most common thing about Him, the very leaves, is full of restorative virtue. Your weakness and shaking are not beyond the reach of the Great Physician. Faith does not always march with a steady stride; sometimes it trembles, and sometimes it faints. Yet even a trembling faith, if it looks to Christ, connects the soul with omnipotence. Surrender your body to His method of operating. Do not dictate to the Lord that you must feel a certain way to be healed, but cast yourself wholly upon Him, trusting His wisdom in the valley of weakness, and believing that He can so renew your strength that you will mount up with wings as eagles for the duties of life and labor.

Your mother’s case calls for the full capitulation of an unconditional surrender. The creature can never be a satisfying portion; to lean upon the arm of flesh is to lean upon a broken reed. The Lord often allows our human crutches to splinter and fail so that we might at last fall back into His everlasting arms. Her healing, both of body and of that difficult spirit, lies in ceasing from man and finding her all in God. Pray that she will make a complete surrender to her Father’s good pleasure, flinging wide every gate of her heart to the sole sovereignty of Prince Emmanuel. True health for her soul and body will spring forth when she says from the depths, "Thy salvation, Lord, not my own scheming or the help of others, is my only joy."

Let nothing persuade you that any soul in this household is beyond the reach of saving grace. The only right salvation is a divine one, planned by God, purchased by Christ’s blood, and applied by the Spirit. It is without money and without price, offered freely to the blackest of sinners. Press these threefold petitions with a holy boldness, for it is written, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Be not content with a half-hope; reach out for the full blessing of household salvation. Walk with your eyes fixed steadily upon Jesus, for he that looks at the stars stumbles into the ditch, but he that looks to Christ walks safely, even through the valley of death’s shadow.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

God hears the prayers of those who cry to Him with a broken and contrite heart, so let no one think that persistent entreaty is ever wasted. The drunkard and the self-reliant both share the same root sickness: they have not yet learned to receive the word as if God Himself were speaking. When I see a father drowning in drink, I see a man fleeing from the pain of his own soul, but the true healing comes only when he stops running and falls before the Physician. Do not despair if he has heard the gospel ten times and remained insensible. A tree may receive many strokes before it falls, and the final blow only succeeds because of all the blows that came before. The grace of God is patient, and the day of salvation is now. Let your prayers for him not be mere wishes for his comfort, but plead that the word he has heard would at last pierce him like a sword, that he would believe Christ is able to do this, that he would know the Father sent the Son not to judge the world but to save it.

For your mother, the illness is twofold: the body’s ailments and the soul’s habit of leaning on creatures rather than the Creator. Many cry out for healing of the flesh while their spirit remains untended, but what good is a sound body if the soul is not anchored in God alone? She must learn that the Lord permits weaknesses so that we come to the end of human props. When every earthly support crumbles, then at last we cry to Him who hearkens at the acceptable time. Pray not only that her diseases abate, but that she would receive the grace of God not in vain, working together with Him in the power of God, so that her dependency shifts entirely from people to the Lord.

As for your own trembling and fainting spells, these afflictions are not meaningless. The thorn in the flesh is often permitted so that the power of Christ may rest upon us, so that we stop trusting in our own strength and learn that His grace is sufficient. You ask for healing so you can be gainfully employed, and this is no small thing, for idleness breeds a thousand temptations. Yet seek first the kingdom and His righteousness, and these things will be added. The body’s weakness can become the soul’s school of virtue, teaching you fortitude and contempt of worldly security. Do not think that your father’s sin means he does not love you. Sin is insanity, a terrible mental reaction indeed, but it is the disease warring against the man, not the man himself. Christ died for sinners, and the salvation of the world was accomplished through His bonds and death. Endure these trials as for the elect’s sake, even for your own household, that they may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. Pray against your enemies, yes, but never pray against your father. The unlawful prayer is the one that seeks vengeance rather than redemption. Let your prayers be for his deliverance, your mother’s full reliance on God, and your own healing, remembering that the Lord’s love has a kind of proportion depending on faith. Believe that He is able to do this, and do not receive His grace in vain.
