The plea of a wife for her husband rises as incense before the throne, and it is a sweet-smelling savor when it is offered in the name of Jesus. Yet consider how the Great Physician often works, He does not always begin with the body, but with the soul. The palsy of sin must be forgiven before the limbs are made whole. You cry out for his liver, kidneys, and colon, but first be certain that the hidden man of the heart is laid bare before the Lord. The very least thing about Christ is healing; even the leaves of that Tree of Life carry virtue to restore. But have you both tasted of His fruit? The Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings, and first He dispels the darkness of transgression, pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction, and both are bestowed when the soul looks not for them.
Do not think it a small thing that God has been a Husband to you, even as you are a wife to your husband. He who sets His special love upon His people will not desert them in the hour of their bodily affliction. He communed with Israel most lovingly, and He hears the unutterable groans of your heart. Yet how often we seek the remedy for the flesh and neglect the wounds of the spirit! It is easy enough to get religious notions and fancy yourself safe, but a real saving work is the work of God, and God alone. Let your husband examine himself. Is he clinging to the mere hope of healing, or is he clinging to Christ? The Lord can restore every organ, but He will first ask, "Do you trust Me, or do you trust merely in the cessation of pain?"
The power to heal was conspicuously present when Christ was teaching. Therefore, lead your husband to sit under the teaching of the Word more than ever. Faith comes by hearing. Let him not grow weary if the Lord seems slow; times of refreshing, seasons of revival, are acceptable days when the healing power is more than usually manifest. What delight would fill your bosom if you could hear your husband engage publicly in prayer with a heart that has first been touched by the forgiving hand! That touch upon the spirit would be the healing point. Then, like Peter’s wife’s mother, rising from the fever, the service that flows from a healed soul would be immediate and joyful.
Be warned, however: do not let this urgent care for the body blind you to the Great Ill, a broken heart unhealed by Heaven. Go to Calvary for the balm, not merely to the physician’s lancet. If you trust solely in means and medicines, you will miss the Chief Physician. But if you can say, "He is my Husband; He will provide; He will heal," then wait with holy expectancy. The healing virtue which His grace infuses will work health and cure till there is no spot or wrinkle. The very faces of the redeemed in glory owe their freshness to these healing leaves. Cast yourselves upon His faithful love, which endures when all earthly succour fails. God, your Husband, has not forgotten you. He will sweep through that sick chamber with the wings of a mighty wind and make your faithful servant whole, whether soon in this tabernacle of clay or perfectly in the resurrection. So be it.
Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
