I’m still trying to make a cover for my armchair; it’s complicated because it doesn’t have a regular shape, I’m not an upholsterer, I don’t really know how to do it, and I have ###—so I get tired easily. May God help me finish it today and have it turn out well.

The frustration of tackling something unfamiliar, especially when fatigue sets in, is very real. But remember, God sees your hard work and your heart’s desire to do well. He doesn’t call us to perfection, but to faithfulness in the tasks He places before us.

The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Even when the chair’s shape feels irregular or the process overwhelming, lean on His strength. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, "Commit your deeds to the Lord, and your plans shall succeed." Have you invited Him into this project, asking for wisdom and patience as you work? Sometimes, stepping back to pray before continuing can bring clarity and renewed energy.

We also want to gently encourage you to consider whether this task is one you need to complete alone. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up." Is there someone in your life, a friend, family member, or even a professional, who could offer guidance or a helping hand? Pride can sometimes keep us from asking for help, but humility opens doors to blessing.

Now, let’s pray together:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister, lifting up this project to You. Lord, You know the weariness in their hands and the frustration in their heart. We ask that You would renew their strength as they work, giving them patience and creativity to navigate the challenges of this task. Father, if it’s Your will, let this cover come together well today, not for their glory, but for Yours, so they may see Your faithfulness in the details of life. If this project is meant to teach them dependence on You or others, reveal that truth in a way that draws them closer to You. We also ask that You would surround them with people who can offer wisdom or assistance if needed. May this small victory remind them that You are with them in every effort, great or small. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen."

Keep pressing on, dear one. Whether this cover turns out perfectly or becomes a lesson in perseverance, God is using it to shape your character. And if today doesn’t go as planned, remember His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). You’re not alone in this.

We can picture you, carefully measuring and pinning, pushing through the tiredness because you want this done, and want it done well. There’s something about a project like this, a bit beyond our skill, a bit more tiring than we planned, that can make us feel very small. Yet it matters. The God who holds the universe together is just as present in the quiet struggle with an irregular armchair as He is in any great event. He sees the patience and the effort.

It is not a failure of faith to work within your limits today. If you need to pause more often, even to sit with a cup of tea and ask for fresh strength, that isn’t giving up; it’s stewarding the body you’ve been given. We sometimes think we have to push straight through to honor the day, but love moves at the pace of the tired, too. So we’re glad you reached out.

As you continue, don’t hold your breath waiting for a perfect result. Offer the work and the weariness to Him, and trust that He receives whatever your hands can give today with the same tenderness a parent receives a child’s imperfect gift. A cover that fits well enough, and a heart that rests in His kindness, that is enough.

The task you have described is indeed a hard one, and you do well to make your plain request to God that you might finish it today and have it turn out well. The chair is stubborn, but the Lord is not. Labor is no trifling thing when it wears upon your frame; the apostle himself knew inward striving matched with outward toil. Yet be not dismayed at your weakness, for the Almighty worketh in us mightily even in the common duties of the day. Do the little you can with patience, and then leave the result quietly in His hands. Many a hard task has been finished when the heart has learned that quiet waiting at the posts of Jehovah’s door. The fear of failing will only drive you closer to Him; and He who began a good work in you will not abandon you in your armchair, much less in your soul. Plod on, and may the Lord give you both strength for the body and skill for the hands, that this cover may be completed to your comfort and His glory.

You toil over an armchair cover, feeling the body's weakness and the mind's perplexity, and you ask for God's help. That is right, for we can do nothing without Him. But while your fingers hold the needle, let your heart hold the memory of hell and judgment. For what will it profit you to fit a cover neatly to a chair if your soul remains unfitted for the kingdom? The rich man never once considered the fire, and so he fell into it. Nothing is so profitable for our souls as to keep that inexorable tribunal before our eyes; it purifies us more than any silver.

Do not be overly anxious about the shape of this chair or the straightness of your seams. Sin alone is disgraceful, and no outward imperfection can compare to that. When the Ninevites feared destruction, they were not destroyed; if we despise the threat, we will soon feel its execution. So let your labor be done with patience, offering your fatigue as a sacrifice, but let your thoughts dwell less on earthly coverings and more on the garment of virtue. God looks not for a chair adorned with costly fabric, but for a heart clothed with humility and fear. Let your garment and your furnishings be simply what is needful, and remember that many who lived without a single good work, saved only by grace, will yet suffer loss when they see others crowned in splendor. Work at your task with diligence, but work out your own salvation with trembling, for the fear of the Lord has far more power to save than all the comfort of a well-made chair.

That armchair cover sounds like a genuine wrestle, not just with the fabric but with your own limits. The shape resists your efforts, and the tiredness hits before you can gain any real momentum. I think of how a child prays around a meal, not with polished words, but simply spilling out every care that comes to mind, the food, the day, a lost toy, a hurting knee. There is something right and good about bringing even this kind of ordinary, frustrating task straight to the Lord. Your request, asking for help to finish it today and for it to turn out well, echoes that childlike faith. You are not demanding; you are depending.

Jesus once saw Zacchaeus in a tree and called him by name, saying, “Today I must stay at your house.” He did not wait for a more convenient time. He knew the man completely and met him right in the middle of his day. He knows your name too. He sees the chair, the tricky seams, the fatigue in your hands. This day does not escape His notice, and neither does the work that has you stumped.

So pray with confidence, not as if you have to twist His arm, but as someone learning how to lean. Ask for skill, for steady energy, for patience with the process. And as you ask, hold the outcome loosely. The goal is not simply to finish, but to offer your effort to Him, trusting that His strength shows up even when the cover takes longer than you hoped or the stitches come out crooked. The weakness you feel can become a place where you learn to depend on His Word and His Spirit, not on your own technique. Go ahead, thread the needle, and do the work quietly with Him. He is able to sustain you, stitch by stitch.
