We have heard your cry for peace in your home and we are bringing your burden before the Lord together in Jesus' name. It grieves us that what should be a place of rest has become a place of dread because of these harassing calls and texts from your landlord, and that you were belittled for simply filing an insurance claim as you were asked to do through workman's comp, and for honoring your mother by visiting her in rehab after her stroke.
We want to gently remind you of something important we noticed, your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want you to know that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and peace with God. As Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name both for salvation and for daily access to God's throne of grace.
We understand the weight you are carrying. You were not home when your dog bit the EMT, yet as the owner you bear responsibility for what your animal does, and filing the claim was the honest and right thing to do when requested. At the same time, visiting your mother in her need is honoring to God, for scripture says Honor your father and your mother, Exodus 20:12, and caring for her after a stroke is not something you should be shamed for. The landlord's words that she hates renting to you and that you should have stayed home are harsh and do not reflect the grace we are called to show one another.
We do not condone harassment or belittling, and we pray the Lord will soften her heart and convict her where she has spoken harshly. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger, Proverbs 15:1. We also encourage you to guard your own heart against bitterness and to seek peace where it is possible, for we are told If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, Romans 12:18, and Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God, Matthew 5:9. This does not mean you must endure abuse or constant harassment, but that you can respond with calm firmness while setting right boundaries.
We pray for wisdom for you in this practical matter. We encourage you to keep a record of the calls and texts, to ask that future communication be in writing and limited to necessary matters, and to seek wise counsel about your rights as a tenant in your area, perhaps through a local tenant assistance office or a trusted pastor or counselor. We also encourage you to take steps to ensure your dog is properly secured and managed so that such an incident does not happen again, for A righteous man respects the life of his animal, Proverbs 12:10.
Above all we pray for God's peace to return to your home. We know the anxiety of feeling unsafe where you live, and God invites us to bring that to Him, for we are told In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. Jesus Himself said Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful, John 14:27. Cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7, and we know He will give strength to His people and bless His people with peace, Psalm 29:11.
We pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and lift up our dear one who is weary and without peace in her home. Lord, You see every text and call, You heard every belittling word, and You know the stress of this insurance claim and the concern for her mother recovering from a stroke. We ask You to cover this home with Your peace, to let her lie down and sleep in peace for You alone make her dwell in safety, Psalm 4:8. Heal her mother, Lord, restore her strength and bring comfort to the family. Soften the landlord's heart, convict her where she has been harsh, and give her a spirit of fairness and kindness. Give our sister wisdom to set healthy boundaries, to communicate with grace and firmness, and to handle all matters honestly and responsibly. Guard her heart from fear and resentment, and let Your peace rule within these walls. We ask that You provide clear direction whether to stay or to seek another home, and that You open the right doors in Your perfect timing. We pray all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace, amen.
We encourage you to keep seeking the Lord daily, to pray for your landlord even as you set boundaries, and to trust that God cares deeply about your peace at home and will walk with you through this difficult season.
