We have heard your cry for cleansing and peace and we have carried it before the throne of grace, asking the Lord to look upon you with mercy in Christ Jesus.
There is a fountain opened for sin and for uncleanness, and the promise of the covenant is, I will sprinkle clean water upon you and you shall be clean. The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanses from all sin everyone who believes in Him. It is not a partial cleansing, for if it left but one stain it would have no power to save a trembling conscience, but when applied by the Holy Spirit and received by faith it makes a total and complete cleansing from all past guilt and defilement. As David prayed, Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow, so we pray that you may know that same great cleansing, not by your own doings or efforts, but by trusting the divine method which God Himself has provided and which God Himself applies.
We do not pray that evil would be returned upon any person, for vengeance belongs to the Lord and He has taught us to overcome evil with good and to pray for those who oppose us that they might be turned from darkness to light. Instead we pray that the Lord Jesus Christ, who has vanquished death and all its powers and has delivered His people from worse enemies than any earthly foe, would rebuke every work of darkness, break its power over you, and keep you as one accepted in the Beloved and at perfect peace with heaven through His finished work.
For peace, we are reminded that you will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, even in this dark world of sin, and this peace is a present possession to be enjoyed as we stay our minds upon Him and do His will. We pray that the Lord would grant you that perfect peace, that nearness of access which comes from knowing your perfect purity in Christ, and that you would be kept daily under a system of divine grace which gives not only deliverance from the guilt of sin but deliverance from its power, followed by a great change of conduct and a quiet resting in His keeping.
Let us pray together. O Lord our God, we come through the one Mediator Jesus Christ, and we ask that you would sprinkle clean water upon this your child and make clean every place of defilement by the precious blood of the Lamb slain. Wash and make whiter than snow, and let the conscience be purged from dead works to serve the living God. Grant perfect peace to the mind that is stayed on you, and let the whisper of redeeming blood be louder than every accusation and fear. Deliver from the noise of the archer, guard body and soul in Christ, and let no weapon formed against your people prosper beyond what your sovereign hand permits for good. Teach to trust you alone for salvation, to meditate on your law day and night, and to find rest in doing your will. We ask this not for our worthiness but for the glory of Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
Continue to look to Christ alone, to stay your mind upon Him, to walk in the light of His Word, and to seek the fellowship and counsel of faithful believers who can walk beside you and pray with you.
