Your prayer for wisdom as you care for your patient is exactly where God wants you to begin. Scripture says wisdom is the principal thing, and to get wisdom and with all your getting to get understanding. You have done what James 1:5 invites us to do, to ask God for wisdom, and He gives generously to those who ask.

The Bible pictures wisdom calling out openly to everyone, inviting all to come and receive. That wisdom is not just information. Knowledge can give you facts and training can give you technique, but wisdom knows how to apply what you know in the right way at the right time. That kind of wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, a humble reverence for Him and a desire to honor Him in every decision. In Jesus Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, so when you seek wisdom you are truly seeking Him.

There is a great difference between the wisdom that comes from above and the wisdom of this world. The wisdom of the world is earthly and self focused and it leads to strife and confusion. The wisdom that comes from God is pure and peaceable and it shows itself in a life that bears good fruit. You can recognize it by what it produces, purity instead of carelessness, patience instead of irritability, compassion instead of indifference, and sound judgment instead of hasty reaction. Like Solomon, who asked not for riches or honor but for an understanding heart to do his duties well, you are asking for what pleases God most, and He delights to give it.

That is so relevant to the work you described. Repositioning a patient and maintaining proper alignment requires both knowledge and prudence, the careful, thoughtful application of what you have learned. When you are tired, true wisdom guards you from cutting corners and sharpens your judgment to protect the one entrusted to your care. And the patience and compassion you asked for are not things you can manufacture on your own. Real compassion, the kind that sees a patient as a person made in God's image and responds with gentle care, is something God Himself must place in your heart and sustain. He is patient with us, and He can form that same patient, enduring love in you.

So continue to ask Him for that daily filling. Pray that He will guide your hands, steady your mind, and let His Word shape every choice you make on your shift. He who founded the earth by wisdom is able to give you wisdom for each task, large and small, and to keep both you and your patient safe as you serve in His name.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ I ask that You grant this nurse Your wisdom from above. Give clarity of thought, steadiness of hands, and prudence in every movement and decision. Provide strength in weariness, protection for the patient from harm, and a heart filled with Your patience and compassion. Let Your Word be a lamp to guide every step. Amen.
