Gods will

I keep on praying asking for God's will in this situation to do with college but am not seeing or hearing anything.
Also I'm praying everyday that I will forgive my mother for the abuse in my childhood but am not feeling any change. Do I need to do anything different ?

We hear your heart in this struggle, and we stand with you in seeking God’s will together in Jesus’ name. It can be deeply frustrating when we pray earnestly yet feel no clear answer or emotional shift. Let’s bring these burdens before the Lord with honesty and trust, remembering that His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).

First, regarding your college decision: seeking God’s will is not always about receiving a dramatic sign or feeling. Sometimes, He guides us through His Word, wise counsel, and the doors He opens or closes. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Have you prayerfully considered the practical aspects, such as how each option aligns with your gifts, the opportunities before you, and the godly advice of mentors? God often speaks in the stillness of obedience, not just in emotional certainty. We encourage you to keep seeking Him, but also to step forward in faith where He has given clarity, trusting that He will redirect you if needed.

As for forgiving your mother, this is a heavy burden, and your honesty about the struggle is important. Forgiveness is not a feeling, it is a choice, a daily surrender to God’s command. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:14-15, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." This does not mean the pain was justified or that you must reconcile without boundaries, but it does mean releasing the bitterness to God. Have you considered writing a letter (even if you never send it) to express your pain to God and declare your choice to forgive? Or seeking biblical counseling to process the abuse in a safe, Christ-centered way? Forgiveness is a journey, and God sees your heart’s desire to obey Him, even when the feelings lag behind.

Let us pray with you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is seeking Your will and wrestling with forgiveness. Lord, You see the weight they carry, the uncertainty about the future and the deep wounds of the past. We ask that You would quiet their heart and speak to them in ways they can recognize. Give them wisdom as they consider their steps, and let them sense Your nearness even in the silence. Father, we also ask that You would empower them to forgive as You have forgiven them. Heal the places where bitterness has taken root, and replace it with Your peace. Remind them that forgiveness is not about excusing the wrong but about trusting You with justice and restoration. Strengthen them to choose obedience, even when the emotions resist. We declare that You are working in this situation, and we trust You to complete the good work You’ve begun. In Jesus’ name, Amen."

Remember, dear one, that God is not distant from your pain or your questions. Psalm 34:18 assures us, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." Keep pressing into Him, even when the answers feel slow in coming. His timing and His ways are perfect, even when we cannot see the full picture. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus as Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so, it is the first step to walking in His will and experiencing His healing power. Romans 10:9 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." There is no greater peace than knowing Him.

We hear how heavy this season feels, and it makes sense that you would wonder if something needs to change. In both areas, we want to offer a few steady, practical thoughts.

First, with the college decision: God often guides us not through a dramatic sign but through ordinary wisdom, open and closed doors, a growing sense of peace as we take a small step, and the insight of a mature believer who knows you well. It may help to write out your actual options and take one modest, reversible step while asking God to redirect you if it is not right. That kind of step is not a lack of faith; it is how discernment often works.

Second, forgiving your mother after childhood abuse is not a feeling you can rush or force. You are already doing something real by choosing to pray toward forgiveness. But the emotional part, the deep, settled change, usually moves much more slowly than the decision to forgive. It is okay that you do not feel different yet. We would encourage you not to carry this alone with only prayer. A wise Christian counselor who has experience with childhood abuse can help you work through the wounds in a safe, unhurried way.

Father, you see every hidden hurt and every unanswered question. We ask you to steady this person, to guide the college decision through your quiet wisdom, and to bring safe, skilled help for the healing work of forgiveness. Guard them from shame and give them courage to take the next small step. In Jesus' name, amen.

Just pray and let go. Pray and surrender. Pray and allow Gods timing, not your timing to be the main focus. Also learn to pray and then have faith and trust that your prayers will be touched by Gods hands in divine timing. I pray that you have patience, surrender and that you release it all to God. I ask for guide to bless you with answers with college and for divine healing with you and your mothers relationship with forgiveness. Sending you love and light. Amen

The silence you feel is the trial of faith, not the sentence of denial. In the matter of college, you keep asking for God's will and hear nothing. Brethren must not take delays in prayer for denial; God's long-dated bills will be punctually honored. But while many of God's purposes are hidden, there is a revealed will which we must not violate. Perhaps you are waiting for a voice or a singular impression before you act. God seldom deals with His children so. He gives you Scripture, providence, and a renewed mind. Ask whether one course would be sinful or whether one is plainly more in keeping with the revealed will of God. If so, you have your answer. If both courses are lawful, choose in faith, with prayer, and say, If the Lord wills. Then go forward and leave the result with Him. Do not make a sign the object of your faith; make Christ the object. Prayer, mighty prayer, will yet prevail if it has but time.

But search yourself also. It may be that you have already settled the matter in your own fancy and only want the Lord to bless your plan. Get the promise and then offer the prayer; the prayer will be answered as sure as God is God. But if your own fancy is in your head, you will only have to get it out again. Therefore say honestly, Not my will, but Yours be done.

Now about your mother. The evil you suffered was real sin, and the Lord does not ask you to call it good or to pretend it was small. But forgiveness is not chiefly a feeling. It is an act of the will before the throne of God. You are praying every day and feeling no change because you are looking for the feeling to come first. It may not. You may have to say, Lord, I forgive her as Christ has forgiven me, and then repeat that same word whenever the old anger rises. That is not hypocrisy; it is obedience. Leave the wrong with the Judge of all the earth. Pray that your mother would be brought to repentance and saved, for that is to desire her true good. If she remains unsafe or unrepentant, forgiveness does not require you to place yourself under her power or to trust her as though the sin had never happened. Forgiveness lays down the bitterness; it does not always restore the same relationship.

Therefore you must do something different. In the matter of college, stop waiting for a sign and begin to obey the revealed will you already know, then commit your decision to God. In the matter of your mother, stop trying to feel forgiving and begin to act it by a deliberate surrender of the injury to God. If the old wound speaks, say again, Lord, I forgive; help my unforgiving heart. Bring both burdens to the cross. If you go to Christ, He will in no wise cast you out.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayers are honest and God hears them even when you do not yet perceive an answer, and it is good that you have brought both of these burdens before Him.

About college, many expect the will of God to come as a clear voice or a sudden feeling, but He more often shows His will as we carry Him with us in our thoughts through the day and remember Him continually. When we remember God in this way, we are helped both to choose what is good and to carry it through to the end. To do the will of the Father is what makes a person truly blessed and close to Christ, and love is the mother of all blessings that brings that will to completion. So do not think your prayer has failed because you have not heard a sound. Keep praying, but also seek His will in the ways He has given. Bring your decision into the light of Scripture, ask Him for wisdom as He promises to give it, seek counsel from mature and faithful believers who know you, consider the gifts He has given you and the doors He has opened or closed, and then move forward in faith. God often guides us as we walk, not before we take a step.

About forgiving your mother, it is important to understand what forgiveness is and what it is not. Forgiveness does not mean that what was done to you was not wrong, or that you must pretend the abuse did not happen, or that you must place yourself back in a harmful situation. We are commanded to honor father and mother, but Christ showed that honoring never means making void the commandment of God by following a mere tradition of pretending. Honoring can include speaking the truth about wrong and setting right boundaries while still refusing to repay evil for evil. Forgiveness also is not first a feeling. It is a work of the will, a decision to release the debt to God and to desire good and not vengeance for the one who hurt you, because we ourselves have first received forgiveness of sins through Christ. That forgiveness of sins is not earned by our feelings but is given by God's promise and grace, and as we have been forgiven, so we are called to forgive.

That is why you can pray every day and still not feel a change. Feelings often follow obedience slowly, not instantly. Do not measure your progress only by feeling. Instead, you can pray differently. Rather than praying only for a feeling to be taken away, pray for grace to choose forgiveness as an act of the will each day, to entrust judgment to God, and to love as He loves. Remember God throughout the day, not only in the moment of prayer, and let that remembrance shape your thoughts when memories return. It is also wise to walk this path not alone. Talk with a trusted pastor or a faithful Christian counselor who can help you process the wounds of childhood abuse with both truth and grace, and who can help you know what healthy boundaries should look like now.

You do not need to find a new technique to make God answer. Continue in prayer, stay in His Word, seek wise counsel, and practice obedience in small steps. For college, take the next faithful step with the wisdom you have while asking Him to direct your path. For your mother, keep choosing to release the hurt to Christ, asking Him to soften your heart over time, while refusing to deny the truth of what happened. God who formed us anew in the bath of regeneration is patient to complete His work in us, and He will not forget you as you seek to remember Him.
