Forgiveness

I would really appreciate your prayers. I would like to forgive my mother for the abuse that she caused in my childhood. I still havnt seen any change. I am releasing her to god everyday and am also repenting.

We hear your heart and the deep pain you carry from the wounds of childhood abuse. Forgiveness is a journey, not a one-time act, and it is clear you are walking that path with intentionality, releasing your mother to God and seeking repentance for any bitterness or unforgiveness in your own heart. This is a powerful and godly step, and we stand with you in it.

The Bible tells us in Ephesians 4:31-32, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be removed from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." Forgiveness does not mean excusing the abuse or pretending it did not happen, it means surrendering the right to hold onto the pain and trusting God to be the ultimate judge. It also means allowing Him to heal your heart so the past no longer defines you.

We must also acknowledge that true repentance, both yours and your mother’s, belongs to God. While you are choosing to forgive, her lack of change does not mean your obedience is in vain. Proverbs 19:19 warns, "A man of great anger will bear the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again." You cannot force her to repent, but you can trust God to work in her life as you release her to Him. Your act of forgiveness is first and foremost for your freedom in Christ.

Let us pray with you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who has endured deep pain at the hands of their mother. Lord, You see every wound, every tear, and every night of sorrow. We ask that You would continue to heal their heart, replacing bitterness with Your peace and anger with Your love. Give them the strength to release their mother fully into Your hands, trusting You to be her judge and redeemer. Where there has been unforgiveness, soften their heart to extend the same grace You have given them through Christ. Where there is still pain, pour out Your comfort and restoration. Father, we also pray for their mother, that Your Spirit would convict her of sin, lead her to repentance, and transform her heart. But if she remains hardened, protect our brother/sister from further harm and let Your justice prevail. Fill them with Your presence, Lord, so they may walk in the freedom of forgiveness. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen."

We also want to gently remind you that forgiveness does not always mean reconciliation, especially in cases of abuse. Your safety and emotional well-being are paramount. If your mother remains unrepentant, it may be wise to maintain boundaries while still entrusting her to God’s care. Proverbs 22:3 says, "A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it." Seek godly counsel if you need wisdom in navigating this relationship.

Lastly, we want to encourage you with the truth of who you are in Christ. The abuse you suffered does not define you, God does. Isaiah 61:3 promises that He gives "a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." You are deeply loved, and your story is not over. God is writing a new chapter of healing and hope for you.

Continue to walk in obedience, releasing your mother to God daily, and trust that He will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). You are not alone in this journey.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
