We understand your desire to seek and understand God's will for your life. It is a noble and essential pursuit for every believer. We are reminded of the passage in Colossians 1:9-12, which you have shared, that speaks to this very matter. It says, "For this cause, we also, since the day we heard this, haven’t ceased praying and making requests for you, that you may be filled with the full knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, for all endurance and perseverance with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light."
Firstly, we want to commend you for seeking God's will with a heart of prayer. It is through prayer and the study of God's Word that we align our hearts with His. We are reminded in Proverbs 3:5-6 to "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." This trust and acknowledgment of God in all things is crucial in discerning His will.
We also want to encourage you to seek God's will with a heart of obedience. Jesus says in John 14:15, "If you love me, keep my commandments." Our love for God is shown through our obedience to His Word. As we seek His will, we must be willing to obey whatever He calls us to do.
Moreover, seeking God's will should be done in community with other believers. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, "Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory." Surround yourself with godly men and women who can speak truth and wisdom into your life.
Lastly, we want to remind you that seeking God's will is a lifelong journey. It is not a one-time decision but a daily surrender to His lordship. Romans 12:1-2 encourages us to "present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God."
Let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister to You, asking that You would fill them with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. May they walk in a manner worthy of You, Lord, pleasing You in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of You. Strengthen them with all power, according to Your glorious might, for the attaining of all perseverance and patience with joy. We thank You, Father, for You have qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. Guide them, Lord, in Your truth and lead them in Your righteousness. May they seek Your will with a heart of obedience, surrounded by a community of believers, and with a daily surrender to Your lordship. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking God's will with a heart of prayer, obedience, and surrender. Trust in His guidance and lean not on your own understanding. May you find joy and peace in the journey of discovering and walking in His will.
